I fell of my chair with amazement when I was flying through a cloud and suffered from ice on my cockpit windows. I was like wtf is that! Kept me smiling untill I landed.

Apart from that: graphics, flight model, the complex engine management, custom belting, the map. This game has huge potential.

There's a smiley face in the ice on the Ju87 right side cockpit glass when that happens.

ships explosions; was flying very low recently, and looking right side i saw ship's masts breaking and projected to the air, very detailed, very immersive

explosions from bombing run; look like lifted from a movie

overall handling of AC; much better than old IL-2 in every aspect, though it could sometimes convey the 'feel' of engine power a bit better, but that's difficult in a sim right?

AC and DM detail; nothing short of amazing (have you seen the landing wheel going down through a holed wing?)

landscape and terrain; for me somewhat short of its potential, needs colour tuning and some haze in the distance (last beta was much closer to ideal as many have stated), shimmering needs to go and the detail area border is too much evident, could be more populated with various models already in the FMB, but still

some random nature of flight; happens frequently to heat up over 100ºc just after take of, or to the make the entire flight under 97ºc; gunnery effects also vary, DM is very detailed

sound; some aspects can improve, like MG fire and engine sounds when broken, but very promising right now

CEM; great overall, while some rough edges like being able to increase/decrease pitch and throttle without breaking the engine; in IL-2 i remember once, just for the sake of experimenting, went into a dive with a Spit MkV, put fine pitch, and gave throttle from 100% to 0% and back to 100% on a very fast sequence, the engine screeched just like a saw and stopped; i don't think that can happen in CLoD yet.

I suggest to make a sticky of this thread, as a presentation of the good things of our sim for the new visitors. The image of CloD would benefit IMO.

S!

The cockpits and shadows in them. A lot of small details in graphics engine as well.

1. Yes, the cockpits is the first that comes to mind. Absolute works of art with only a very few exceptions that could've gotten some more love.

2. Feel of flight, back in the early il-2 days I thought to myself, flying a computer sim will never feel better than this, then CloD was released.

3. Sounds, after the sound patch absolutely amazing, everything from the distant fly-by sound of a 109 to the delay in time from when a 20mm cannon shell explodes a few hundred meters in front of you.

4. Lightning and shadow, gorgeous, best (realistic) I've played in any game. Very subtle and not over-used effects.

5. Weapons & bomb effects, also stunning. Ships exploding, dirt cascades from bomb explosions on the ground, hit flashes and debris falling of enemy planes when hitting them. Fantastic.

6. Water, I know some people have some gripes with this but I absolutely love flying over the channel, the water is just alive IMO, love the color too.

There are more things to love and mention about CloD but these stand out the most for me.

1. Ripping a blenheim apart so it appears to be a flying skeleton plane, makes me chuckle every time.

2. Having the south of england stretching into france as a single map is phenominal, the historic missions that are possible is breathtaking.

3. The sound of a spitfire as it fly's past and the groan of the merlin engine as it climbs away from the player, I have seen real spits flying and omg its so realistic.

4. The Scrips for coop, I use the Lobby Maps and play almost every single player mission the depth that we are able to get with the FMB rivals anything else in the same market.

5. Not made by the money hungry DCS team as this update we are getting soon would be a paid addon... and you know it. Im not hating on them just pointing out the dedication of Luthier and co.

Ps this is a great topic.

Well I am very new to CLoD, having just recently installed and not really played much yet. In the process now of creating a joystick file for my Cougar for it, and assigning all the key commands I think I may use one day - whew, quite the task... was a late night last night just assigning key commands to controller commands.

I have flown just a little in the training missions, maybe around an hour total, but OMG the sound man - the sound of the engine on my Klipsch 5.1 soundsystem cranked up - it is incredible - so for me in this extremely early stage, I can say the sound without question! And as I get more into it, I imagine the sound will still rank right up there near the top, if not at the top. I do love great sound, and from what I have heard so far , I am going to love it!

What I like the most is to taunt the red fliers in ATAG to get them motivated to kill us.

Two nights ago right after we won the mission, ATAG_Doc switched to the Red Teamspeak chanel and played the Luftwaffe March for the defeated RAF players.
That was a hoot.
