Pope you dirty little dog you!!

I'm already one step ahead of you. The decals on the plane (which i dont add by the way, these things are diecast so everything is already done) are not like your pics. The are simply the same on both sides - E-W

Will try and get some pics up

Is that correct then?
That would mean Olife was right in saying that the side profile art is wrong, and that I'm mistaken in thinking the letters were always mirrored like on your hurricanes.

[QUOTE=Robotic Pope;368331]Hey Olife, you know you said the W and E were the wrong way round in this picture

and correct in this next picture

And then I said this:

Well I'm confused now with Foz's model showing the letters the other way round. Unfortunatly he didn't take a photo of the right side model so I can't see, but from what I believe, either both photos are wrong or the left and right decals have been put on the wrong way round on the model.

Anyway no big deal, they all look fantastic.[/QUOTE

it should read left to right , squadron letter/letters then aircraft letter,so looking at photo of model and box art,id say the model is spot on(assuming that E is the squadron code)

Then how does that explain the A LK Hurricane?

Funny how Ive never really though about squadron markings before.

hmm interesting,i would of said the hurri LK A ,was incorrect, but got this from a warbird site
"aHawker Hurricane, wearing the black paint scheme and markings of Ian Gleed's P2798, LK-A, during his nightfighting role. Markings on the right side of the aircraft read A-LK, this is to allow the RAF roundel to be painted directly in line with the one on the other side."
but is the model a night fighter? im confused

The Hurricane in the pic isnt the night fighter, its the BoB Gleed Hurricane. His night fighter was exactly the same just all black.

You'll find most squadron marking are the same -

Squadron codes followed by individual airplane code - this example being -

LK-A

LK being the code for 87 squadron and "A" being the aircraft code. This example being LK-A and on the other side A-LK.

Majority of others are identical though.

I've never really been to fussed for squadron markings to be honest.

But the Hellcat and the Gleed Hurricane are correct with their markings.

Others are the traditional - squadron code followed by individual airplane code on both sides of the fuselage.

yes i believe his aircraft was marked that way,all the images ive seen suggest that
but other 87 squadron aircraft were marked the 'standard' way
the only reason i can think is that he was A flight leader and maybe wanted to stand out from the other planes in the flight
edit, found a third photo from june 41,i dont think its the same pilot but LK A is marked the 'standard way'

Thanks for clearing that up chaps, very interesting

Just love those two Spitfire mkXIXs Foz. I got to say i'm a bit dissapointed that there seems again to be no griffon engine spitfire in BoS. All the spitfire variants in the game are so simalar.

Sorry for the late reply guys, i've been at work since 6am so it was an early night for me.

Another thing worth noting is that squadron leaders (Douglas Bader, Johnny Johnson, etc etc) could use their initials on their plane rather than squadron markings. So Johnny Johnson for example flying Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk IX MK392, part of 144 wing would of had the code JE-J on the side of his Spit. Douglas Baber had D-B

Pope....

As much as i love the Hurricane, i have to agree that a griffon Spit would of been nice in BoS. But things would of been pretty one sided if it was included haha. A beautiful plane. I love the sound of the Griffon engine to. So beefy.
