Default How to Turn off Force Feedback?

I have an extremely irritating problem with my forcefeedback where the game takes the joysticks movements over my own. It a real immersion killer cus i can't aim!

For example, i can't pull smooth turns and whilst firing guns i get uneven jumps and whilst turning sometimes results in a total loss of enemy AC.

I have tried going into the conf file and putting FF = 1 to FF = 0 but still the same problem.

Any ideas?

You can del the FFB files from the game.. than there is no way for the game to do FFB

I recomend you keep the FFB portion and just del the files that pretain to the shaking and such

I forget the dir name, but look in the root of your game dir

There should be a folder called Force something or other, in that dir will be files, back them up first, than del one at a time and it will get rid of that aspect of the FFB, be it shake or what ever

as mentioned by the thread starter this has no effect on FFB. seems to be a dummy setting.
also deleting the files in the FFB folder doesn't help. tried all this. I'm close to buy a new joystick for this game as flying half the time without centering forces eliminates the tiny rest of fun...

Really?

You must have deleted the wrong files? Or something because it works! Has to, in that if the game has no *.ffe files to load it can not run those files. Especially wrt the 'shake' stuff, the 'force feedback' will default to a 'set' value that no longer changes with airspeed, as in your controls (joystick) gets stiffer the faster you go.

On that note here is the directory and corresponding files you will want to play with (delete, rename, remove, edit)

The default path

32bit OS -> C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts\core\FF
64bit OS -> C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts\core\FF

In there you will find the following *.ffe files

Code:
autocannon.ffe
bomb.ffe
machinegun.ffe
mortar.ffe
punch.ffe
shake.ffe
SPRING.FFE
As you can see, the descriptions of the files are pretty straight forward.. For example(s)

delete the 'machinegun.ffe' file if you don't want your stick to 'shake' when you fire the guns
delete the 'bomb.ffe' file if you don't want your stick to 'jerk once' when you drop a bomb
delete the 'shake.ffe' file if you don't want your stick to 'shake' when your engine is damaged

And so on

If your like me and you only want the force feedback (stick stiff when you go fast, stick loose when you go slow) than delete all the files except SPRING.FFE

right this party works but I get occasionally fails of the spring force when I enter the menu or go to the desktop. I think best way is to change the stick...

party? Did you mean partially works? If so, I have to disagree, if you want to removed individaul aspects of force feedback sticks, ie things like shake than this works 100%

Let me guess.. Microsoft FFB2 stick? I had the same problem with that stick in IL-2, alt tab would kill the forces completly such that the stick became a wet noodle with zero force. That is a problem with the MS FFB2 sticks, not the game.

I have not tried it, and I am sure you have, but Ill say it anyway.. Did you delete the spring file? In that when the game loads, if it does not find that file it should use a standard constant force, to simulated a typical spring type of joystick.

If you got a MS FFB2 stick than yes.. Sadly there is not much to choose from in FFB sticks these days. I highly recomend that you DO NOT buy the Logitech G940! It is a 'system' per-say, where it consists of a FFB joystick, throttle and rudders. With that said the FFB stick is actully pretty good, but the rudders and throttle are completly worthless wrt sliders! The pots on those two items are so 'noisy' that you will curse them everything you fly! Trying to line up a target with those rudders is a nightmare! One little touch, BAM noise kicks in and next thing you know the nose of your plane is bouncing back and forth.

But, if you have to have a FFB stick, and are willing to sped ~$300 for the G940 with the idea that you will have to toss the throttle and rudder pedels, than that is one way to go.

I am using a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force stick.

Fantastic stick and i really don't want to get another one because it is the best ambidestrous stick out there!

I'll try backing up and deleting those files then.

Cheers.
