The Best of it the GPU is at mostly at 300 MHz and the core temp is baerly over 50° Celsius and all other games dont have these graphical glitches.

These glitches apears when the forest setting are at 3 and effects > as 0, if you switch the forest settings back to 2 the glitches disapear by effects 1 and 2.

Default Thanks!!

Dear Group,

I have been an avid of IL2 and the following games and addons it generated. I don't fly online and have always lurked in the shadows. The support Oleg and crew has given to this game is way beyond anything in the known gaming world today. So thanks for this last update. I had the the problem of installing the update and having the game not start. I removed the game totally and did a clean install of 1946 installed the update 408M then copied the file for the beta update and it still would not start. Not to give up I downloaded cnThor's DLL's and it works flawlessly. I tired editing some of the settings in the config.ini and it slowed my machine down quite a bit but what I saw made me want to go out and get a new video card and more ram. I have the water set to 2 and the landgeom=2 and my machine runs it fine. I really like the look of the new skins the prop spinners look much smoother and not so blocky. The cockpits look great along with the water shading being awesome. I flew around in Slovakia map area and it's well done.
Thanks again for your hard work and making sure this will run on an older slower machine

It was explained in this post that setting would tell the game to use all 4 cores of a quad CPU as well as the setting of 0 zero or commented out would.

Great to hear your story Vanwhel! - I'm sure there are a lot of people like you out there. Not everybody else is as vocal as us forum regulars!

I think it is pure magic that you in far-off alaska, me in denmark and countless others have been able to enjoy this sim for quite a few years now. What a great ride it has been. Let's hope SoW will sell just as succesfully and that it will give us combat flight sim happiness for many more years!

Its for Quad Core users. You can set the AffintyMask to allow the game and OS to use multi cores. I have tried running it on just one of the 4 cores, or default off with the ; in to turn it off.

I get the best FPS and NO SCREEN FREEZE when I use all 4 cores.

I found that VISTA 64 runs the multi cores set up the best vs my old XP Pro.

Here is a post I read before I ever tested this.

Quote:
Bitmask: 00000000000000000000000000000000 = Decimal 0
Processor affinity is off, and the load is distributed across all available processors.

Bitmask: 00000000000000000000000000000001 = Decimal 1
Processor 1 selected. The process will only run on processor 1.

Bitmask: 00000000000000000000000000000010 = Decimal 2
Processor 2 selected. The process will only run on processor 2.

Bitmask: 00000000000000000000000000000011 = Decimal 3
Processors 1 & 2 selected. The load is distributed across both processors, effectively the same as setting 0 above for Dual cores.

Because 0 puts the load across all processors and 3 puts the load on processor 1 and 2, they are essentially the same thing for Dual core CPUs.

For Quad core CPUs you can use more values:

Bitmask: 00000000000000000000000000000100 = Decimal 4
Processor 3 selected. The process will only run on proces

And any combo between 0 and 15, for example:

Bitmask: 00000000000000000000000000000101 = Decimal 5
Processor 1 and 3 selected. The load is distributed across processor 1 and 3.

Processor 1, 2, 3, and 4 selected. The load is distributed across all processors, 1, 2, 3, and 4.

This is a post from MaxMhz a while back in response to a question as to how to increase performance on my quad core rig. Please note that forcing Il2 to run on anything above 2 cores does not give me any better performance, HOWEVER running on two cores instead of one core gave me much better performance on the Black Death track, a 36% increase in the minimum frame rates actual
Note that Decimal mean =# for people who don't know that.

Great patch! The only bugs are when I look around in my cockpit to the left or right the sound stutters or something. The sound of the engine is lower when looking at left or right but it is not smootly reverting to the higher volume while looking dead ahead. May be my soundcard. I also get and cmaudio.sys blue screen when having extension on in the audio properties. I know it could be my soundcard.

I have also noticed a big fps drop if you use water=4. I have a new 8600GT 512MB DDR3 card and thought the patch was optimized for that card? I have P4 3.0 GHZ, 2 MB RAM. I have water=0 now and I got about 10 more fps with water=0. I can live with that untill I buy a new computer. I have tried water=2 but I get best fps with 0. How big difference is there between water=0 and up? How demaning is it? Is it demanding for the cpu or videocard? I thought my new card could handle that water on setting 4 without problems? BTW: No game renders water as good as IL2!

Default Thanks ABC123!

I have an 8800gts and tried your settings.
Frames on the Slovakia map went from 44 to 59!
Do you know what "VideoSetupId=17" is for?
Mine was set at "2" and changing that appears to have made a big difference.

Thanx

The only problem I have with this particular setting is that it adds a very slight lag to visual rendering as the video card will cache frames in advance of displaying them when the monitor requests a new one.... vertical synchronization is achieved by caching frames and displaying them at the exact framerate of your monitor's refresh rate, when it requests them.

The lag is extremely slight, but every extra millisecond makes a difference, in my opinion. I'd rather have the theoretical extra couple milliseconds of reaction time that land me the extra kill in a thousand.

In addition, using triple-buffering utilizes more memory in your card for caching that would otherwise be used for rendering, further slowing rendering times and lowering overall framerate.

The negative side effect of turning off vsynch is the potential for minor tearing of frame images under extremely high-speed manuevers if your framerate is extremely high.

For more detailed information on vsynch and triple-buffering, I suggest TweakGuides as a resource for optimizing your video settings.

4.09 Beta running great for me now. Gonna miss further patches, but I am more than extremely grateful for what all you 1c folks have done over the life of the sim. Can't wait for your next flight sim endevour!!

P.S. The only thing I'd like to see added to this final "Swan Song" patch is "Weathered/Faded" insignia. ie German Crosses, Roundels, Russian Stars etc. Weathered "default" insignias would be the perfect "last" compliment to all your skins, especially the newest paint jobs! The "un-weathered" default insignia kind of take something away from ther looks of those skins.

I know time is main factor because your attention is being concentrated on BoB, but I also know that with my Paint Shop Pro, I can call up a German Cross, highlight it with the Magic Wand, Choose "Colors" from the tool bar, than adjust brightness/contrast, lower the contrast by 15 or so and bingo, nice weathered/faded looking cross. It's a pretty quick process. Of course thats doing it with the cross's I have for skinning. I don't believe I can do it with FB's default crosses becuase I can't access them, although I wish I could. Maybe you have a trusted skinner around there that would volunteer to do it!

Anyway, thanks again for what you've done. Keep up the good work. I'll always support your products.

S!
