Hi guys. I'm having real trouble programing keys that will allow me to change mixture levels - in the spit anyway.
I find I allocate a key to increase or decrease mixture (I use + and -) and all it will do is open mixture all the way or close it completely. there doesn't seem to be a way to increase mixture 30 per cent, or whatever. |

No because its not Incremental its either Auto Rich or Auto Lean. There is no requirement really to Lean mixture with altitude this is done automatically in either Auto Rich or Auto Lean. As the pilot you select the Mode and forget about it.
Auto Rich generally for High Power scenarios ... take off combat, climbing etc. If you need Range or Endurance then consider Auto Lean.... though frankly in COD at the moment there arnt any really long range scenarios that you really need to think about Auto Rich. |

so for the spit it's either lean or rich? no in between?

Yes and the Hurricane as well. Think of the Mixture control as Mode switches .

Hi IvanK,
Mixture ctrl seems to be working in the Hurri. I can really see the diff on my consumption. Am I hallucinating ![]() |

I don't know if there is any diff in consumption coded. Mind you you would need to fly a very long test mission to be able to measure it.
By working what do you mean ? You can select Auto Rich and Auto lean just fine ... but are you saying you are manually leaning out incrementally with altitude and seeing progressively better power output ? Last edited by IvanK; 09-24-2011 at 10:45 PM. |

Yes I am gradually leaning for cruise from full to 50% (I use the "T" of the "shut" throttle sign as a mark)
Experience seems to show me that : - leaning increase the range (rotol hurri) and can be seen even on the first tank - on some hurri (depending on base and on the way you warm your eng) it's not advisable to set back to full rich for a fight and need to lean depending of your height to get some power during a significant time. Before I realized that there was 4 tanks in the Hurri instead of just one a la Il2 I could stay airborne 45 min at alt only if I did lean the mixt during the cruise. Otherwise the tank gauge (in fact showing the first tank only) would be on the empty mark ~S |

The mix option on RAf fighters is totally pointless. Just use whatever it run best at, with various patches this has changed so often forward/back/rich/lean really has no meaning.
In reality lever back should be rich and used for takeoff/landing/combat (except high altitude which is irrelivant because the fighter dont achieve true ceiling). Its all just symptamatic really of the lack of attention the devs have applied to the RAF planes in general. The spit 1a has the wrong prop and I swear they have got the top speed mixed up between KPH and MPH. Its total rubbish that the Hurricane rotol outperforms the spit 1a in climb and top speed and after how many patches this hasnt been corrected. The furore about the MkII outperforming the 109, yet the 109 outperforms the 1a by an even greater margin. If the Mk1 spitfire had in real life performed as bad as it does in CloD Supermarine would never have got that initial order for 300 of them. Anyone for a flyable gloucester gladiator ? |

Here are the relevant excepts from the Hurricane I Pilots notes in relation to mixtue:
![]() ![]() The Spitfire is in the same boat. Auto lean is only used (with Boost and RPM limitations) for cruising flight. |

People keep posting real life figures for aircraft performance and operations, These are irrelivant, This game isnt real life, we dont have to prime the engine or even switch on magnetoes, 3600 rpm even momentarily is a dream, in game your merlin will blow well before these heady heights are achieve.
How many times has THAT GRAPH been posted ? You know the one with relative top speeds and climb rates for the Spit (with +12 boost) and the 109 . Look at Blackdogs superb posts about the blenheim operating limits, procedures and performance, what relevance do they have about the Blenheim performance in game ? CloD is a game NOT a simulation, anyone who believes otherwise is deluding themselves. |
