It's a great offer and kudos for providing a great set of videos but I wouldn't want Lutheir to use this form of sound recording. Mainly because sound recorded via video cam is usually close to mono and you won't get positional audio.

Positional audio is generated by the game engine. Most game sound effects are in a mono format anyway.

I hope the devs do take up your offer, and do indeed actually make an attempt to give us some realistic sound effects. The Rise of Flight team and DCS team have both worked hard to give us realistic sounding aircraft and they are small teams just like Maddox Games. If they can do it why can't Maddox for Cliffs of Dover where the sounds are very iconic and important to the feel and immersion of the game.

the game needs mono sound, stereo sound wont work.
Sound modded the tiger moth last night, the result was finding out when sound modding the tiger she crashes the game, every time. Changed the sound files to test but still crashes, so i think theres might be something wrong with the tigers code sadly

I do not think the sounds are usable, because of the background sounds, but who knows.

By lack of positional audio I meant that when using those videos, the camera is undesirable bacuse the aircraft are constantly moving or your only getting one side of the source which doesn't provide a true experience.

Many game developers will using stereo recordings to replicate sound in the left and right ear. To get true sound replications you need to be sitting in the cockpit with mics covering both sides.

Something like what Scott has done for the Accusim Piper Cub

I have bought this up many times but the fan bois knock you down and insist that Olegs one is best.
Never mind i live near Duxford and i know when i run outside to see what aircraft the Merlin engine is powering overhead i'm not looking at a lawnmower.

Yeah but nobody who knows what they are talking about, including the devs themselves, are trying to tell you that the game's sounds are real so I'm not sure what threads you are reading.

They are using sound recordings they have available to them because they simply can't afford to properly record what they need from a real Merlin out of country.

If you want to fly around with a 10 second looped sample at all times you can take one of the videos posted here and put it on your ipod with headphones while you play the sim with the sound off.

However, if you want to hear the engine start up, rev, and change pitch or cadence according to what control inputs are doing then you'll have to settle for what we've got for now.

Yes, it's unfortunate that it's as sterile and un-Merlin-esque as it is and hopefully they eventually go to some better lengths to improve it but again nobody is trying to tell you it's as real as it gets.
