pretty sure from what I can see that your "spazzing" is just the sunlight reflecting off the prop

I bet the spaz happens when you have higher framerates. That would explain why it disappears when you run fraps. Try V-sync.

I can't make a vid cause it won't capture the effect.
But here is a screen shot. At high RPM it's exactly the same. Completely invisible in front of clouds.

I want it to be realistic and apparently at high RPM a real prop is just a blurred disc with no sense of spinning. But even when it works it think it's is too light and barely visible.

I haven't tried it yet (updated yesterday with the hotfix but i went out for the night) but from what i hear it sounds like they did a realistic job on it.

The blurry spinning blades that were seen in IL2 are definitely not realistic if we want it to appear the way it's viewed with a human eyeball and not through a camera. In reality props are more visible as blurry discs/blades at low RPM and almost disappear completely at high RPM, that's the reason many props come with painted tips on the blades to assist in determining their radius when they are turning.

That is unless there's sunlight glinting off the prop.In that case it can indeed cause a strobe effect if the combination of RPM and the light's angle of incidence is suitable.
I distinctly remember a real life pilot on this forum saying that one of the first things they teach you in flight school is how NOT to focus your eyes on the prop to prevent epileptic seizures (in case you have a condition and don't know it yet).

So it sounds they did a pretty good job on it in the sim. I'll go out and test this shortly to see it for myself.

Blackdog; when you say you will go out and test, I hope you don't mean to suggest that you will be testing whether you are epileptic or not....

I'd love to see a video showing the new prop effects. Considering the recent graphical advances in the patches (or, rather, attempts as some might say) it's nice to see the sim progressing this way.

I have to agree with some of the above posters, and the devs.

I spent last Saturday at the annual Planes of Fame airshow, which is mostly composed of warbirds, and this game seems to have done the props perfectly. (Note: I don't have the game yet, waiting for US release (yes I know about JustFlight)) When viewed head on, the props are invisible to barely-visible, and viewed from the side they're solid black ellipses, just like in all the screenshots and videos I've seen here.

And yes, there were plenty of examples for me to work off of. (Ignore the F-15)

Hahahah, no, definitely not testing if i can have a self-induced seizure, just testing the new prop effects

I flew a few sorties in QMB and to be honest with you the change is very well done. It's definitely noticeable under the right conditions (low RPM and/or a light source aligned behind you) but it's also discreet, definitely not overdone. In fact, i think that the effect is so subtle that it could probably be lost in the youtube compression.

Blimey, the things you blokes ask for.

Welcome to the most boring clip I've ever made, and believe me I've made some boring ones, uploaded @360p for speed.

Fraps slowed fps down to about 15, so it's not too smooth. No AA on either.

Enjoy! (If you can!)

Hmmm, what we really need, is the light to reflect in the propellar disc. A feature that doesn't seem to be modelled in CloD (is in WoP, but like so many other things in that game, ridicolously overmodelled).
This light-effect, is especially present in daytime, from the pilot/cockpit view.
See the Dauntless from around 0:14 sec to 0:16 sec and then again the f-6 from 1:08 sec to 1:12 sec. and you'll know of what I'm talking about...
