Default Time for a new computer

I think it’s time for a new computer and I was thinking about a Dell Studio XPS 9000 which comes with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card. I would ideally spend no more than $2,000 for the computer and that does not need to include the monitor of speakers, since I already have those components. Any input on this system or suggestions on another rig would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

if you build your own computer you can probably kill anything dell has to offer, especially with $2000

Build you own, you'll get better value and never have to deal with proprietary parts that companies like dell use to bleed you dry if something goes wrong after the warranty is expired.

To stick with Dell:

CPU: Intel Core I7 920
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5870
RAM: 4GB
HHD: 500GB

-> $1180 DELL 9000, a very high performing machine for that price. It isn't necessary for today's games though. Keep in mind that you would only stay 3-4 years 'comfortable' for the newest games on max high-res.

I bought a Dell XPS 630i like three years ago. I'm very happy although the hardware temps can be high sometimes.

The last thing you want is a Dell if they still use proprietary parts. You can build a much better computer, cheaper, and one that you can easily upgrade memory, cpu, and videocard, as the need arises. Cheaply extending the life of your computer.

I would build a system based on the "Intel Core i7 875K Quad Core LGA1156 2.93GHZ Hyperthreading 8MB Cache Unlocked Processor". Its is highly overclockable.

i have two years whit this PC and is not so bad:

*windows 7 64bits (of course!!!!!!!!)
*Core2Quad 9400 2.66Ghz 45nm
*2x2gb ddr2 800 Kingston (i gonna buy another 4GBRAM when Storm Of War release)
*XFX Radeon HD 5850 Black Edition 1Gb DDR5 765Mhz/1440steam/ 4.5Gbps (I buy this in January2010, very nice videocard, u$s300? dont remember )
*Power&Cooling Silencer 750Watts (elementary for big videocards,i buy this too in january2010 u$s 150)
*1/2 Terabyte Western Digital 32mb (is okay for me, only i have 2 GB of music)
*Mother Assus P5QLE (have a maximum of 16gbram, is a little old but is okay)
*DVD/RW 20x dual layer LG
*LCD Samsung P2350n 23" (nice inversion, in nov 2009, now is more expensive,)
*sound: Edifier C2 2.1+1 : (nice)
*jostick : microsoft sidewinder (time of changes, but in il-2 work fine)

1200 res and very high texture in wings of prey. works fine.

Are so much the differences between Core2Quad 9400 2.66 and I7 ????!!!!!!!!

I am not so sure...
I think You need to check for the latest PC parts prices.

You can have 99999999999 FPS from Graphics and CPU, but your LCD monitor works on 60 Hz, that means max 60 FPS and I think this laptop will make it for any game.

Desktops are always cheaper for like components and you'll only limit yourself to 60FPS if you have a 60Hz screen (some are higher) and have v-sync enabled.
