An interesting bit from Todace in dev forum:
"Keep your lols for someone else. PC is very different from consoles. If you don't want to listen what I'm talking about - then don't ask questions.
Just for example - there is no possibility to add replays for console version. This feature requires more memory then it is possible to have. So that means that this is not just 'add' feature. Join-in-Progress, for example can be done on consoles. But it cannot be done in ranked match which is required on Live, and it requires more tests to pass certification. And as we have no posibility to make open beta-test on consoles it was impossible to have it.
And so on.

And, BTW, publisher have to pay platformholders for each update. That is completely different from PC.
Also we are making update with self-funding, so please, give us some respect for this work - we are not obliged to do this.

Our PC version will be updated much often."

My take from this is that my online experience on the PS3 was crippled because of the parallel development with the 360 version and Microsoft's strict requirements for the online interface works.

That pretty much pisses me off, but then again, this crap happens with all parallel developed games.

Seems to me that console games now have way more potential for profit/sales but higher costs for support. PC games are the inverse of this. I guess publishers like EA love the ability to sell the same damn game every year for 60 plus dollars.

It sucks that the online play can't be fixed to allow mid-game joining, but at least PS3 players aren't stuck with Microsoft's stupid enforced deadzone.

I might play BOP some after the patch if I can use my joystick with adjustable deadzone, assignable buttons, and brakes so I can land. Most likely I'll be playing 1946 until SOW comes out. I can't see the PC version of BOP coming even close to SOW in any other area than graphics - and graphics alone does not make a good flight sim.

Yep, that's what stopped Battlefield: Bad Company getting clan support or any of the other nice features the community wanted... Because the XBox version had reached it's M$ imposed "patch limit". So obviously the PS3 version suffered along side...

I dread to think what other features/fixes other games have gone without on PS3 thanks to M$...

Sequel info's up on the dev's forum.

EDIT: This is just the PC version, they're still working on a sequel as well. Sorry

Hmm, sounds interesting...

So as I understand it, Wings of Prey is going to be an enhanced version of Birds of Prey, for PC only, but they are working on a proper sequel as well for release on consoles and PC? Sounds good.

Its a shame they cant incorporate some of the MP options from WOP into BOP on the consoles. I especially like the sound of the option to lock aircraft selection by year and region (only if its optional though)

And, he also mentions that ALL fighters in WOP will have cockpits... if thats true, then there is a good chance that BOP might get those cockpits as DLC at some point too (Not just the 109 and possible 190 mentioned by Anton)

They are making some of the same mistakes with the PC version as they did with BOP.

First off, being able to join mid game is fixed - so good deal there.

But restricting team play to axis vs allies only? Seriously? First off, when jets are allowed in axis/allies servers in 1946 it is easy as hell to just jump in a 262 and blast prop planes out of the sky by bouncing them with spam loads of mk108 cannon fire. This will not go over well.

So this needs to be dropped a as rigid setup- just let the host decide what the limits they want to set or not. They can limit sides to year of service, nationality, prop, jet, and difficulty settings; just basically give them the options that were already in IL2 1946 to allow host to decide what type of multiplayer experience they want.

I don't think taking the flight models from IL2, pimping the graphics, but then reducing features found in the original is a step foward.

I kind of agree. The allied v axis is a bit odd. I can imagine it would be easier to insert more advanced settings in a PC version.

Man, I really wish they had released WoP on consoles in the first place. That game seems to be BoP, but all the big things we felt were missing in the console version, are now included in WoP.

It's because it is BoP... and they filled the empty holes that were there . (Note WoP is not 'the sequel', it's just the PC version of BoP)
