So there is was over the skies of Dover again. Shot down a couple of He111's, this time without crashing into any of them (yay!). The stuka's didn't pose of a problem either. So there i was with still more than enough enemy planes around me to keep me company. Some more He111's went down (they seem alot faster after they dropped their bombs. But maybe that's wishfull thinking on my part). Then i got into an argument with an Me109. After some serious dodging and weaving he no doubt looked at his fuel gage and decided he had to get home or swim home. In the end he still had to swim but at least i got my first fighter kill. So not the most heoric effort of the RAF, but hee!? There's a war going on =)
When i got the demo last week i really wasn't much of a pilot. Lurking here and reading all the tips and websites posted really helped me alot to at least have a better understanding what aerial warfare was like in WWII. So here i am now doing immelmans, split esses and getting better at deflection shooting. So a big thanks to all of you veteran IL 2 players kind enough to share what you have learned over the years. *hugs* ps. Atm playing at realistic. Why? Really like to look at my own plane. Just soo gorgeous. And i do like the targeting system. The 'closed cockpit view' seems to give an edge in deflection shooting however. Having a full gunshight instead of the little white blip in external view seems to work better. Anyone (dis)agree? |

I am PS3 guy so I have yet to play but are you playing solo or in multiplayer (does the demo have a multi?)? From your account this game seems to be pretty awsome and I can't wait for the big day to arrive. Why do you state that the 109 was short on fuel? Is it because he didn't try to fight back to hard?

The poor old (ex) Me109 broke of the fight and really tried get back home after some time. I did hit him a few times, but no smoke. So i assumed he ran out of fuel to continue longer. Other Me109's where heading back also. Not an expert. But considering the range of the Me109 it does make sense. In 1940 they didn't have an awfull long time to stay and play over England.
-edit- And maybe that's one of the strong parts of this game. I'm pretty sure they included alot of stuff that is historically correct. And maybe sometimes i (we) are seeing things that does make sense considering the events that took place, but they are not 'coded' into the game. Frankly i don't care since it only draws me more into the game. =) Last edited by Pyquila; 08-17-2009 at 05:32 PM. |

It is moments like this which I think will make this game.
On the same mission, after scoring hits on an HE111 whilst in a screeming dive, I pulled out only to find myself on the tail of a Stuka (Quite lucky as I was playing on simulation and normally can never find these juicy targets). I gave him a quick burst and watched him start to flame and peel away into a dive. At this moment another one appeared about 1000 feet below. I watched as the first dived completely out of control into the second one, errupting in a massive ball of flame. 2 for the price of 1! I was so amazed by this completely random event that I ended up on the recieving end of a 109. Too busy watching the falling reckage to check my six. Hopefully I will learn my lesson before the full game comes out! ![]() |

I've had an He111 break a wing and flip over onto another he111 beside it. I've also clipped a He111, gone into a spin only to hit another He111 full tilt... This game is mind bogglingly excellent...seems like Russia's aviation brainiacs being short on real plane jobs is our gain...thanks guys! ________ Plymouth Reliant History Last edited by juz1; 02-24-2011 at 08:06 AM. |

![]() But it is safe to assume that they were low on fuel, as they tend to fight but towards the end of the mission ALOT of the planes that aren't really engaged tend to turn high-tail and run. If you look on GoogleMaps and see where Dover, Kent, UK is, I can explain their angle of attack. They come in east of Dover right at that peninsula (you actually start at an airfield right by the town of dover, it's a lovely looking village in the game ![]() |
