Default Best and worst units per level

What are they, in your opinion, taking into consideration their cost, leadership, their stats and abilities...?

It would be good if there was a complete list of units somewhere, anyone know of any?

In the meantime, I suggest these off the top of my head:

Level 2 Best: Inquisitor, Royal Snake, Dryad, with the Snakes winning this tier for me.

Level 4 Worst: Alchemists (okay, they're probably not the worst, but they're way overrated)

Level 5 Best: Probably Emerald Green Dragons

Level 5 Worst: Cyclops

Inquisitors are level 4 units. Royal Snakes are level 3 units.

Just to let you know. Best level 5 as Emerald Greens, eh? I haven't used them but their mana ability looks like a plus.

Oops, my mistake about the snakes, but are you sure about inquisitors being level 4? I'm fairly certain they are 3.

Great choices for level 1 and 4, Stepsongrapes!

That depends not only of the available units for the context but also of the items available. For example with the Anga's ruby:
1: Lake Fairy
2: Dryad
4: Demoness

With Ogre Sandals and slot for it:
5: Giant

And so on. Well with no special items my favorites would be:
1: Lake Fairy & Skeleton Archer
2: Dryad & Scoffer Imp
3: Inquisitor & Griffin & Cursed Ghost (or are they level 4?) & Royal Snake
4: Ancient Vampire & Knight & Archmage & Shaman
5: Archdemon & Emerald Dragon & Red Dragon

EDIT: For a complete list of units there's gamebanshee. Some quote there some errors, myself I haven't quote any yet. At least the unit list seems complete.

Those Skellie Archers seem pretty good but they only have 8 hp! How do you best utilize them? (Sorry about the level 3/4 Inquisitor Confusion.)

A lot of what makes a "best" unit for me is when exactly it's available in the game.

Alchemists, while not that great of a lvl 4 when compared to all others, is available early in the game.

With that in mind (for best):

Lvl 1: tie between skel archers and sprites

Lvl 2: tie between marauder and dryad

Lvl 3: royal snakes (sea dogs as an honorable mention)

Lvl 4: tie between shaman and demon

Lvl 5: grudgingly the Emerald- not a big fan of Lvl 5.
