Smile Just give us another paid add on to IL2

I recall SOW was to release in November 2006. If you do some google you'll find there are still many references to 2006 release dates.

I would be very happy with the IL2 1946 if we just had an FMB equal to the old CFS2 Mission builder or Jane's WW2 Fighters mission builder.

The AAA devs are doing a world class job on map addons, exceptionally nice quality in most cases. Maps for IL2 was always a big problem, now that is resolved with MODS.

Oleg, think about it. Release another IL2 addon with a competent Full Mission Builder and some new planes. That would be a great finish for the IL2. It should also provide enough extra time to finish the SOW and still keep user interest.

E3 has come and gone, and it would appear SOW will not release this year from Ubisoft anyway. Ubisoft would have definitely shown the SOW at E3 if it was close to complete, because that is a very big show for Christmas buyers. Ubisoft are distributors/marketers and you can be assured they would have presented SOW at E3.

Interesting - do you know why SOW has been pushed back for so long?

No?

Because of AEP, PacificFighters, PE2, 1946, loads of free patches and free addons. And you want another addon, so you have something to do while waiting? Makes no sense to me, as you'll wait a lot longer if they do another addon.

And BTW. Maps were not a big problem with IL2. Making them in a way that the minimum requirements for the latest official release-version was and that goal was not met by the mods either. The maps are great, no doubt, but I don't recommend to run them on a machine that meets the minimum specifications for 1946

I think I hit a nerve. LOL

Currently, the Maps from Oleg and company suck compared to "the slot" and other AAA map addons. Yes, I agree when we had lower computer capacity for graphics the IL2 maps were fine.

We are in the now, so they suck now.

The FMB was always a stinker and is still a stinker. It wouldn't hurt to do a few things with it. Do you know there were always features in the FMB that were right in the code that could have saved mission builders hours of work. CHeck out the FMB+ on AAA site, if you don't believe me. Why they weren't included is beyond me.

I don't think it would take that much programming time to give us a competent mission builder either.

Surely you don't think hanging around here and talking to ourselves about mostly nothing is going to expedite the process of finishing SOW?

I think that is the point: You and I are in the now. Many are not. Any in this niche you can't go for the hardware-freaks. You also got to consider those going to the software-pyramid to buy games like 1946 - and those are rarely the guys who have a 1000$ PC.

Besides that, I really wonder. If you guys think those mods are so damn awful everybody's got to use them, why don't you just play the friggin' modded game and be all happy about it, instead of posting here?

I don't want you to think I'm arguing with you. Also, I haven't developed any mods... just don't have the time.

IMO, the MODS are a departure from basic IL2 series that is probably not that big an improvement in the IL2 for most users.

"The Slot" is the most friggin' awesome addon I could have ever imagined. There are numerous maps of the area covered, with airbases historically placed at specific times. This way the player is NOT flying over late war airbases when he is doing a 1942 mission. The Slot was also very carefully developed with similar to historical object placement throughout the maps. This is a real labor of love for a great sim, and I think that is the best way to describe it. The developers of the slot have done credit to Oleg and IL2.

I use only three addons (slot,FMB+ and switcher) - the switcher from 4.08 to 4.09 with and without Mods. This takes all the pain out of trying to maintain integrity of a standard IL2 version and IL2 with mods applied. I'm not sold on all the whistles and bells created by MODS. I do respect all the great efforts by MOD devs to create a more immersive and exciting experience with the IL2 series. There is no harm done as far as I can tell. It doesn't bother me that someone wants to fly a mod aircraft that doesn't have exact flight modeling for the specific aircraft, since MOD aircraft just look like what they're supposed to be.

I thought Oleg planned to release IL2 to the world anyway... before long. It wouldn't hurt if he just opened up and let the source code out. The IL2 will never be an SOW from all I've seen and read...Il2's 8 polygons are a long way from SOW's 16 polygons, etc.

I haven't seen anything from the mods that even comes close to the Slovakia map. All I've seen from Map Mod screenshots are very sparcely populated areas with some interesting airbases.

Oh hell! Does that mean with my low spec machine (2GHz) I wont be able to run any of these new maps that are being talked about?
