Default Why is it assumed that the sequel would be set in Russia?

It appears generally understood that the sequel (if it exists) will be set in Russia. If that's correct, can anyone tell me the basis for that belief; has there been an announcement, or is it just plain old guess work?

I ask because it seems strange to me that a company would agree to invest so heavily in what, at the time, must have been considered a failed title. Instead of using the existing map as the basis for the introduction of new content (FW 190/Spit 5/109 F, etc) - which should be relatively inexpensive to develop and implement I'd have thought, you would have to start again almost from scratch. Not only would that require much longer lead times, it would compromise the company's ability to put the necessary resources into fixing the game's underlying problems. So, why would you do it that way when, for a fraction of the cost, you could simply invest in some new content for the existing map? I just don't get it.

There have been countless development updates concerning the sequel. Many of these have included screenshots. So it looks like a certainty that the sequel will focus on that area.

I have collected the screenshots in an album at Photobucket:

Here are a few from that link:

It seems logical.

- it can only succeed in the west if it is available as an iphone app.

- any theater involving the US will invoke fear of NG style litigation issues.

- in western markets there is a hard core of ex-gamers who have retired from work in order to spend their entire time criticising CoD and actively trying to prevent people from buying it.

- there is a risk the franchise may be bought out by Disney if they remain in western markets
