Default Performance and Bad reviews?

I have a five year old mac pro with only the GPU upgraded and 4 gig ram. I remember when it first came out the performance was terrible, but as of the last patch I think the performance is great with everything on high and medium. As graphics go, I don't think this game can be topped in the current market. I hear the A.I isn't all that, but hey. Apart from that I don't see anything negative at all atm. So why are people with newer computers, i5 and i7 chips, going on about how bad it is and how the game is is dead.

Because the game crashes after an hour or so due to a memory leak, and multiplayer consists of 2, maybe 3 populated servers. It's a wasteland compared to what 1946 was.

Not to mention FM/DM are both beyond questionable, AI is awful, radio commands simply don't work...
But you know what its all already been said.
Personally I've never had performance issues, except for the memory leak.
Sadly I expect more than an air quake only online game.

Aye, had the memory leak, a few times, but I have only just started playing again. Thought I would give it a year to get its act together. I am pretty confident that in a couple of years it will be as good as 1946, and have fuller servers also. I think it took the original that long if I am not mistaken. And that is pretty popular now. That's why I won't be writing it off.

once the game is stable and people have upgraded there 10yr old pcs, the 1946 community will slowly move to clod.

Of course they will move. It's inevitable. Not tomorrow. A bleed off. I see more and more new names every week. A year from now that will even increase and continue as new theaters are introduced. No need to wast any energy worrying about it. Nothing one can do about it.

I sincerely hope this is the case...

I think one thing a lot of people forget is that there is always the possibility that, out of the blue, another development studio may throw us a super realistic WW2 simulator that works on the day of purchase and where we can actually rely on the system specs as stated on the box. (Of course we all know where the finger of blame points in that regard.... it certainly isn't Ilya et al.)

Not likely? Maybe... impossible? Not at all. If the above happens then it is, sadly, game over.

A lot of people have been lucky enough to only really suffer the memory leak issue and if I said I was incredibly envious it would be an understatement. There is also a sizeable bunch of us who were, perhaps, new to the world of simulation (Well... I say "new" but I doubt "Stealth Fighter" and "Apache Gunship" on the ZX Spectrum really counts. lol) and actually believed that their mid and low end systems (That the recommended system specs stated were fine) would run the game perfectly well, if not on ultra high settings.... but when they found that, even on the lowest settings possible, it was still a mess all the "Well you need a good system to run a simulator! Everyone knows that!" platitudes and holier than thou spouting off from fanboys kinda fell on deaf ears.

Things WILL improve though... I am sure of that! Why? Because even if 1C can't fix it (I'm sure they will)....... well...... take some time and google "Gothic 3" some day. lol

So, those that bought IL2 in 2001 have never updated their PC's then..........

I've got a 27" late 2009 imac, Quad core i7, 6 gig ram, ATI 4850 overclocked.... its just a slide show for me at any settings, and controls don't work right too boot.... IL2 with 20gig of mods and everything maxxed works just fine, as does every other game I've tried, like COD MW3, Crysis games etc... Everything but COD works fine.... I don't think its a computer issue.. I keep checking back to see when it doesn't suck, and until then, I play modded IL2 happily - Just wish I hadn't spent full price on COD and given that to the modder sites instead.
