Default Terrible experience partly solved!!

Hi fellas,

I'm terribly mad since a couple of fellas (inc myself) yesterday tried to play a bit together.
After 2,5 hours trying everything imaginable we gave up. First of all I'd like to say I'm not a newbie. Been into simming for nearly 20 years and been fiddling with computers and technology since the beginning of the 80´s.

I won´t say anything about the GUI other than you now how I feel about it. Also I don´t want the standard fellas telling me how great it is. It's not, period.

Now, we set up all firewalls and routers to admit the game ports. We first tried to host in the standard way which didn't lead us anyway. Time outs and launcher crashes all the way. When we finally connected this way the game didn't launch

Then we downloaded the scripts from Banks´ and tried that way but everytime we ended up starting in the water?! Atleast we managed to launch the sim.

Unfortunately since the late hour and great frustration we didn't follow up scientifically on this by taking notes of everything we tried.

Now I know there is a way to get this to work because I see many more playing on dedicated servers and I've flown on the SYN server before but why in the name of "someone" must it be so counter intuitive to start a game? I know it has great possibilities but right now I´m so fed up with it that its probably going out the backdoor never to be considered again. I'll only have so much time in RL and I prefer to put it ón something that actually works, like DCS, ARMA2 and RoF.

Well enough of the steamblowing, if anyone has similar experience and have the solution, like, oh right we had the same and we forgot to...., feel free to let me in on the secret.

All the best to all fellow simmers.

HaJa -

I can feel your pain. Two days ago I was not able to start the game at all. Problems connecting to steam and anytime I tried a server command it would disconnect from steam. Are you trying the dedicated server setup or just setting up a server from the menus ?

You must make sure the port the games listens(27016 default) on is open in your firewalls, as well as the ones steam uses (2 of them If I recall)

If you are setting up a dedicated server you need to add the server to the "Favorites list" in steam sometimes for it to show up.

Ports for steam? That I've missed. Isn't that one supposed to communicate the ports automatically.
The firewall has not given an alarm for steam ports.

However we set up connections directly via IP and not by advertising the server online.

Steam FAQ on their site has a list of ports that have to be open/forwarded for all games including Counter Strike or CloD (1st link in Google IIRC).

As mentioned in another thread system running CloD utilised 9 GB of RAM after 1 hour flying online. This person does not have launcher crashes because he has 12 GB of RAM.

There is also a separate thread on server how-to above.

All issues have their separate solutions while the sim is not 100% ready.

Please upload your mission for Banks in his thread to test why it starts in the water with his lobby. Maybe the map is different or there can be other reasons.

Please try this set of coop missions http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showpos...5&postcount=73

They were tested by SD squad and do not start in the water.

Thanks mate, I will see if we manage to get it working properly. The mission we tried was "battle of village".

Due to RL situation with much work to be done none of us has that much time with testing and fiddling but we'll try to get a second attempt in.

All the best.
