Salute
While CLIFFS OF DOVER may have a extremely good graphical representation of the aircraft, to a detail not seen in many other games, the one thing it lacks is reflective light from surfaces, in particular the smooth metal surfaces of an aircraft, or its cockpit glass. If you consult the many accounts written by actual combat pilots, one of the most common instances for the key initial sighting of an enemy aircraft, was seeing a glint off a cockpit or a wing. I remember seeing reflection in a pre-release video of a Stuka, but for whatever reason, this did not make it into the final package. Right now, the visibility of aircraft in this game is actually worse than in IL-2, it should be better. I believe much of this problem could be fixed with the incorporation of reflection into the graphical representation. For it not to be present in the game, is highly unrealistic. i dont think its reflection you are seeking. you are seeking a powerfull graphic shader to represent the split second flash. a specular flash. Ive played with the idea months back within the current shader at that state of development. and i think we should have a little somthing extra implemented over and above the current specular implementation. and it should definelty be very dependant on light direction. however whilst this was an observation method im sceptical about how often it could be used given how angle dependant it and weather permitting the function is. its more of a chance occurance leading to an outcome than a strategic method leading to a kill. because to use it strategically would involve already knowing where the enemy is located, theoretically.

I saw a glint off a Spitfire's wind screen online last night.
Looked really good too. However, I think there are bigger fish to fry at this point.

that's the way you spot enemy aircraft in rof, mostly when you lose them against the terrain

I can deal with no reflections... especially when we are struggling to keep decent FPM's at the current state.

Agreed, but I think there are bigger issues at hand.
Hopefully when the game becomes a more stable platform they can start to tweak the details.

I always thought it had reflections, well some anyway, i just cannot remember where I saw it ?
hmmmm .. i think it was a reflection of my wallet singing "i'm waiting for you" while looking into the cockpit of a defiant ?? .. ![]() .
