We all remember IL-2 Sturmovik as a great game that broke new boundaries and started a new era in WW2 flightsim. But we don't remember the patchrate.
Many complain about CloD patches being patched and one thing fixed and two broken. So how was it in the days of IL-2 Sturmovik? Googled some and this is what I found. It might be inaccurate. If so the please correct it. Game released in November 2001 Patch 1.01g Patch 1.02a Patch 1.02b Patch 1.03a Patch 1.04 Patch 1.04b Patch 1.1 Patch 1.1a Patch 1.2 Patch 1.2ov released in September 2002 So in less than a year we had 10 patches! Seems CloD development and patches ain't any different from IL-2 which we today hold so high! Patience is a virtue! ![]() |

Considering we've had several patches yet the game is still unplayable by people whose systems exceed the minimum system requirements I'd say they have a right to be irritable. I can play the game, and I believe the team will continue making improvements. However, remember that just because the game works decent for you(and me) doesn't mean there aren't many others who are getting crashes, severe stutters, etc, rendering the game useless. |

I played IL-2 day one so I can confirm that it wasn't half-broken on release like CloD. Sure there were quite a few patches but the game wasn't crippled like this "thing" is. The IL-2 patches were mostly tweaks and minor fixes whilst this game was released without functioning commands system for example.

Just saying that in 10 years we'll probably say that CloD was the best thing ever happened to the sim world.

Actually the original IL2 had a good number of glitches when it first came out. Minimal ground graphics had people making "Lawn Dart" jokes because they couldn't gauge distances and were constantly flying into the ground. Many of the gauges in the cockpits weren't working when the original IL2 came out. Planes would belly bump the ground and not be damaged. Vehicles rolled along the road and their tires were sunk too deep in the road, as well as planes on runways. It all has a familiar ring, doesn't it? Everybody wants everything yesterday, and with a complex flight sim like this - that isn't going to happen overnight. Patients young Jedi's! Patients!

Where are these young Jedi's patients of which you speak?

I feel vaguely tempted to install the IL2 beta, just for the trip down memory lane. Assuming it would work on W7-64.
