Hi Folks
I was looking into where COD stands on the PR front. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/il...liffs-of-dover So review wise things are still on middle ground, Although when it comes to user reviews specially in the german amazon sales page of the game gets a pretty negative impression. http://www.amazon.de/IL-2-Sturmovik-...ef=pd_sim_vg_2 So here is how the game stands on the global review scale, Im also baffled about Gamespots early review although beyond the rating and negative awards it is written pretty fair although i think that the state of the art graphics and DM should have been taken into account a little more. One thing that stands out for me is that in most reviews even the negative ones there seems to be hope for the future of COD. I think that the target audience (Simmers) will still buy the Product. The actual problem is that as it is actually the game caters more to onliners than to offliners (With the exception off filmmakers). In my humble opinion now that the hardest performance issues have been adressed with the latest patches, For the online player the game is more than sufficient and dogfights are a joy to behold. Now the team should focus on making the game interface a little more friendly specifically for quick missions. Setting the quality of Ai of each airplane in the flight as well as its loadout, the old Il2 interface with its intuitive treelike branching is the right way to go. To make the game more attractive for offliners, it should be a goal to implement a dynamic campaign even if it is a Bob oriented old IL-2 style campaign to beginn with, it could be built up in a evolving fashion expanded later with new features. ![]() What worries me is that for a game to evolve in this way funding is needed. And funding comes through sales, the worst case scenario for this sim would be silent hunter 5 (Which also was gravely hurt by Ubisofts dumb copy protection) ergo no more patches. ![]() You may differ, but I make an appeal to support this rapidly growing ugly duckling so that it may grow become a swan and unfold the longterm potential that guided the vision of its creation. ![]() Regards Hunger |

Now that is the strongest indicator of weak sales when it comes to video/computer games. I was expecting it but so soon? ajajajajaj....
There's still the U.S market though and I reckon that's the make it or break it market for IL-2, Russia coming in at second place (maybe even first) and Europe probably the smallest when it comes to strongest fanbase and potential buyers.

Rise of Flight did this very well by drip-feeding new payable DLC (such as new aircraft).
In this way they were able to keep interest in the game, continually improve the game (as CoD desperately needs to) and also to work on really important new things such as a vastly-enhanced career mode. This latter point is critical for CoD IMHO, because offline as it stands, it has little life expectancy. Just wait until all the current performance/FM/DM/graphical glitches/errors, etc. are sorted out, and then see how long this game can sustain offline interest, which is where my interest lies. The team is going to have to stay very busy for a few months yet, or this sim may die for offliners. Sincerely hope that they (or third parties) manage to enhance this aspect (once all the more important stuff is sorted out, of course). R |

They need to come up with some FMB documentation so people can start creating missions/campaigns. Without user made missions/campaigns the offline part of the game will surely be dead in a short time.
