Hello all,
Hope this is the right place to ask. These are my machine specs: Mainboard : Abit IP35-E (Intel P35+ICH9/R) Chipset : Intel P35 Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400MHz Physical Memory : 2048MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM ) Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 88E8056 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3 (32-bit) DirectX : Version 9.0c The question is - is it worth it to upgrade some of the system components (GPU, RAM etc.) or to buy a new machine completely? I was thinking of installing 8GB RAM and replacing the GPU (though I don't know if my PSU and PCIE are up to the newer cards). what do you say? |

Hi
i have a this computer: Chase: Thermaltake element V Power supply : Antec truepower 1000W Motherboard : Asus p5nd Processor : Core 2 duo E7300 Memory : Ram 4GB 800mhz, kingston Video Card : 2x SLI Nvidia 9800GTX+ Operating System : 7 64 bits with that configuration of equipment, yet in low quality and small window of 1024x768, and the patch 14072, I only get 10 FPS over London. Over the sea in combat with bombers, I only get 30fps, until I enter combat, they come down to 20 although my computer is 2 years old, I think it should be worth to play Cliffs Of Dovers without upgrading. my graphics are not bad, and buy another computer for one game is not a priority, in addition to minimum specifications that validates my computer, so Ubisoft and 1C do not meet promises how 1C and Ubisoft will solve this problem? or do I tell my friends not to buy the game, because they will not to be able to make run it Byer Last edited by Aty2; 04-16-2011 at 11:04 AM. |

Seems to good a PC to scrap. I think you would get a good midlife upgrade by concentrating on RAM and your vidcard. A Good powersupply is often overlooked but is essential. Remember any Vidcard could be transfered to any replacement you buy at a latter date. I would say to play il-2 CoD min spec would be 4 gig ram and 1gig vid card and even then you will have to turn the eye candy down. However this is a budget upgrade but worth considering. I allways feel towards the end of a computers life its worth thinking about overclocking. What the hell if you fry the chip, your gonna replace it anyway ! Besides I always find a dead computer is the best incentive to shop for a new pc.

Thanks Whoarmongar and Jibo,
So let's say its RAM addition and a switch to WIN7. The only question remaining is the GPU. can someone recommend a GPU that will give good value / performance ratio, and once I'll switch to another system, maybe I will get it a twin brother and go SLI? |

I dont think SLI is worth the grief. better I think to buy One good card than 2 average and wait for SLI issues to be resolved. Im a longtime ARMA2 player and SLI never worked for people in that game, black screen, blue screen crashes just exasperated the sli equiped players. I must emphasize yet again that The power supply must be good, Buy the best you can afford, scimping in this area is not advised.
