Default Thinking of loading Windows 7 in 64 bit...

I have a copy of Win 7 just never loaded it as XP has been rock solid for me.

However is there really any advantage in loading a new copy of Windows 7 64 bit (for the game and an extra 4mb ram I'm thinking of getting...)

Any advice welcome.

I have often thought the same thing.
Looking forward to hearing some input about this.

I can't really reply as to whether it'll run the game better, but I have found Win7 x64 Professional to be an extremely good platform. Even more resiliant to my game playing than XP was.

Your mileage may vary, of course, based on specs.

The game is built around the DX10 API IIRC so unless you want to run one of the unofficial ports of DX10 to XP I would say yes. Just loaded Win7 Professional 64-bit myself over XP, and I've had no problems with it at all, once it's set up there's very little difference anyway, just make sure you turn UAC to never notify and be aware that you can't have the classic Start Menu style any more.

What other posters have said... Win7 can run directx 10+, can address more memory (installed as 64-bit) and has overall better resource management.

I waited a while to switch from XP to Win7 and now I'd never consider not using Win7. I've had zero issues with it.

Give it try, you won't regret !
I love it. I came from Vista 64bit and holy shait, the difference is huge.

For anyone else that comes from Vista, get a new HDD or SSD for W7 and keep the old one hooked up. Dual OS FTW, you just choose which one you want to use at startup. I don't know about XP though but I assume it applies to XP as well.
