Default Question about IL2 1946

Been thinking about buying this since I enjoy good flight sim games, but was just wondering if it will work with Vista 32?

SOrry if it's been asked before.

Nice, thanks.

This game still have a solid multiplayer community?

And how difficult would it be to get into the game as a newbie this far into things?

@Windchaser

if you are into console games then BoP will be right for you but if you strife for a challenge closer to realism then 1946 will be better for you.
Btw, 1946 should be much cheaper, just be ready to spend what you saved with the software (and more) with some hardware (Hotas, Trackir, etc..) when you are finally addicted.

Got everything installed and patched up.

Is there a way to run at my monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050?

Curious too why I can't set Landscape Lighting to Excellent or Landscape Detail to Perfect. Only going up to high on these options for me.

For native resolution open your conf.ini in the game-folder with the text-editor and use the following settings:
[window]
width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=1
EnableResize=1
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

and for (my) optimal settings with a ati 4870 use this settings:
[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=1
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=0
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=0
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=0
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=2
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=3
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=17
Water=2
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0

also in conf.ini.

Perfect settings work only in open-GL!!!

For additional info you might look up "sturmowiki" in google (in german)

Have fun

Fighter pilots make movies, bomber pilots make history

Rob, you are the MAN!

Would those optimal settings of your's work with an 8800 GTS 512?

Wanting to tighten the game's textures up some. Looking pretty choppy and blurry for me so far. Will try the reso fix first.

I'm not super technical, keep that in mind, but I'm wondering: How do you know that you're setting these properly in the config file for the hardware that you have?? I have an ATI 9600, for example. So how do I know I'm setting resolution and everything else optimally, understanding that if I have it set incorrectly, or expecting too much from my hardware, that I will either see the result, literally, and/or my fps will drop??

Right now, the game looks pretty darn good to me, and my fps are adequate, so I'm inclined to leave well enough alone, but still, you don't know what you don't know, if that makes any sense.

Thanks!

Coog
