Seems plausable,

if they could only find some sort of aircraft wreckage it would surely be a bonus due to the fact -

a)not many planes were flying around willy nilly at that time in such an isolated place
b)not many women pilots

they struggle to drive cars, **** knows why you would give them a plane haha

I dunno if it's solved. But it is a reasonable explanation, but so are others in the past. There are a lot of mysterious stories of pilots during the 30s and 40s going down, and what happened to them. I think it's best that this one stays a mystery, because not everything needs a answer. Let people speculate all the want. Just don't come up with an answer.

I wouldn't mind knowing what happened. Makes history all the more enjoyable to learn about.
