Flanking/rear attack bonuses?
A long time since I posted here before - tried Googling an answer for this with no luck. A combat question: does anyone know if you get bonus for rear/flanking attack in KB games?
Thanks, P. |

Horsemen do more damage if they can attack across multiple hexes in a straight line. Hayterants have a special ability that functions similarly. Brontors have a special ability allowing them to attack across any number of hexes so long as it's a straight line. Assassins have a special ability that can only be used if the target's rear hex is open (not blocked by map edge, another troop, or some obstruction). |

You can think of Brontors like the new version of Lina's 'Ice Orb' rage spirit ability from The Legend: straight line attack.
. It is not specifically mentioned as a flanking "bonus" per se, but you can think of it as such if you wish: with very few exceptions (griffins [plain & royal], demons & executioners, black knights with Moro's crystal) all of the attacks against a troop AFTER the first one, will not be counter-attacked. This is a good way to keep all casualties going to a single troop--easiest to resurrect, only one Turn Back Time needed, whatever--while letting other troops stay uninjured and/or getting the Attack value boosted from Frenzy for killing a stack. (Basically, you have five stacks; one of them attacks an enemy stack and gets counterattacked; the other four attack the SAME enemy stack, and NONE of them take casualties because it has already 'used up' its counterattack.) Orc Veterans are a prime choice to be the first stack to attack, because when the enemy counterattacks them they counter-counterattack. This gets you two whacks at reducing that stack before any of the rest of your units step into the breach. |

@ShuiMienLung: What does counter-attacking have to do with flanking ? Flanking means to attack from the side (hence the name "flanking") or even the back to take advantage of the enemy's defenses being focused at the front.
Counter-attacking has nothing to do with that whatsoever. And for that matter, neither do line attacks or teleports. I confirm the assertions made about flanking, tho. There is no such thing in KB:TL. |
