Knives
Does anyone use these? During the years I've played these games I remember two occasions when knives and bayonets have been useful (one was a lucky Dragunov bayonetting in BE5, the other was when I knew i'd get attacked in the bar after the Base-mission in 7.62)
I do get that they're faster than pulling a gun out at point blank range, but... Ok, you're killing the bandit leaders and their crews for the mechanic. You've got a handfull of mercs, and since you get the drop on them, you're getting your knife out. You stab guy number one, but there's more than 2 meters of distance between you and the next guy. And you get shot. And I just realized the other day that in both games, I'll have a merc keep a throwing knife for a good portion of the game, but never use it. Can they be used from the pockets, like grenades? I'd guess not, but how far can the average merc throw a knife, how often is it a straight kill, etc. ? |

There is an old, ancient and very wise chinese wisdom:
"Never bring a knife to a gunfight!" |

R@S - you really need bayonets on those to be effective in a knife fight
Also - maybe create one level for boot camp where only melee weapons are available? |

I've always found bayonets and knives to be awful. You run up to an enemy, and you attempt to stab him.. before you've stabbed him, he will have hit you instead. You're now shocked, and he's just going to hit again. And again. And again. A stupid stunlock.
I've only used a bayonet succesfully when an enemy was properly shocked. Then again, at point blank you might as well fire a round from the hip.. |
