Default finally got it to go

the final answer was windows 7, 64 bit. I have i3 cpu, 550 ti card, 4 gigs ram, asus mother board. I tried the game in XP, not so good, windows 7, just ok, but the 64 bit version on my second partition was the trick, game is quite good now.

Maybe 64 bit allowed the use of the full 4 gigs of memory.

a good thing to add to a rig with low ram is a flash drive
when win sees it, choose the boost option
you are allowed up to 8 individual flash drives
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...res/readyboost

i have done this with a 16gb flash drive, i plan to add another soon
made big gain for my 4 gb ram rig

What if I have an external Hard Drive, will that work? I have Windows 7 64 bit with 4 gig of ram.

Thanks for this info, I had never heard of readyboost. I just tried this on my system using an 8 gig stick (Q6600 quad, 4gig ddr2, GTX280 oc with win 7 64) and I can now play online without noticable slowdown. I attacked a flight of 8 bombers at the same time as another hurricane, both of us in flack and I didn't get any slow down! Just last week in the same server (ATG) I got into a dogfight with a Stuka in the middle of flack and it turned into a slide show. I am very happy now! Makes me feel better about waiting until later this summer to build a new rig.

Hopefully v2 is a better pilot, tbh he couldn't be any worse than his predecessor....

I am equally shocked. But would like to welcome you to the new world of 64bit processing.
