Hello all,
I don't know if any of you have the g940 and updated to the latest firmware, but i have and it has totally crapped my stick and ffb, the stick is just awful now, no dynamic change in forces it feels like there are four motors and its not smooth notably in the four corners... If any one has had this happen to them after the fw update and has found a solution could you please help me out as I am so dissapointed in what I did... ![]() ~S Ph8 |

1. Which firmware is that? 1.42 (G940_Update_FW0142.zip)? Where did you get it from?
2. Did you test it with Control Panel? 3. Did you try with ForceTest 4. Which version of Windows are you using? Artist Last edited by Artist; 04-13-2011 at 08:28 AM. Reason: Ottography |

Well I tried both the 1.41 and 1.42 both provided on the logitech ftp site. I have fiddled with the settings in the profiler (spring force/dampening etc) over and over and still can't get the feel I used to have back ie: Smooth stick in all 360°, you could really feel the stick go from limp to tight as you speed up or pull hard on the stick, also I was a fond user of "no centering spring" which now seems constant. Now it just kind of feels always the same or is not as pronounced as it used to be. When you get used to "feeling" your plane as you fly it really bites when all of a sudden you lose that "tactile" sense. Maybe users of the g940 who have updated their firmware could post different forcefeed back setting they are using.. Perhaps I am setting them all up wrong. I am using Windows 7 32bit. ~S Ph8 |

Ok, as far as I understand you do have Forcefeedback - but it feels different from before...
Yes? If so, this becomes a highly subjective issue. I do not remember to have felt a difference from before when I installed firmware 1.42 ... Just to make sure: 1. Force Freedback is enabled in IL-2, Hardware, Inputs 2. The stick is connected to power supply ![]() 3. You did verify Force Feedback with ForceTest Artist PS: Sorry for not posting Logitech GameController's settings: I've physically modded my G940 and run it without Logitech drivers and Game Controller software. |

Yes I have tried forcetest. Yes its plugged in lol Yes its enabled in IL2 My previous setting where 100%,70%70% no centerspring. Like i say it was smooth as ever. Limp on the tarmac and progressively stiffer as i build up speed. Limp as I approach stall. Now its not smooth, feel all the gears, hard to use in the four corners (not smooth thus not precice) and I either have a limp stick or an overly tight stick depending on the settings. Either way it stays what ever i set it to during the whole flight. Others have experienced this since the FW update. ie (posts on logitech forum): "332_Sqn HaJa EDIT: Oh and one thing for me that also has been mentioned is the loss of incremental strength in IL2. What I mean is that it should be "loose" when on tarmac, just mimicking the resistance of cable/pullies and or hydraulics and then stiffen incrementally as a result of wind pressing on the control surfaces. As per 5.09 it's gone or is controlled by an adjustment yet to be discovered by me" QUOTE------------------------ "Regardless what settings I use, centering force is now more or less constant from center to full deflection. While with original firmware was growing incrementally, being close to zero at center and smoothly growing with stick deflection." I concur. It's game dependant. In Over Flanders Fields, for instance, control surface forces remain (together with excessive, disorienting delay in the onset thereof) dynamic, while in IL2 the forces are now static throughout all flight conditions, the value being dependant exclusively upon the “spring effect” setting; sitting on the tarmac with the engine off - on a windless day no less - produces exactly the same control surface force as diving at 900 KPH. No setting permutation corrects this. So, depending upon your flight sim of choice, an essential force-feedback feature has been deleted by virtue of the new firmware. In the end, though, my wildly spiking rudder pedals have long since suggested to me...... Well, duly noted, Logitech. Cheers, or as it were, Greg END QUOTE------------------- So its not just my system, its the new firmware that is either not interpreting il2 data correctly or totally differently giving me a crappy flying experience, i do it for the fun and immersion and this has really downed me. Thanks for help m8. ~S Ph8 |

You made me curious... And I digged into it. Here's my result:
1. Obviously it's not Logitech's fault (this time ![]() 2. This strong spring setting is encoded in the file Quote:
4. However, I found a copy of fedit here - and take no guarantee whatsovever. 5. With this tool one can inspect the spring.ffe and see that the force is full (10000) on all axes... 6. With this tool one can create a new spring.fee (modifying the original did not work with me - and, for heaven's sake: do save the original to a safe place first!) with very much lower settings... 7. For the many impatient I have attached an zip-archive with a spring.ffe with very low (447) settings (And again: do save the original to a safe place first!). On the runway the stick is as limb as a, a..., well metaphors fail me ![]() 8. Finally, do not blame me, if something goes wrong! 9. [added later] There's one drawback, however: The ForceFeedback is not properly initialized with a plane standing motionless on the runway (there's just no force to feedback ![]() Have fun, Artist PS: There's a good post by MikkOwl on G940 and ForceFeedback settings here Last edited by Artist; 04-09-2012 at 03:36 PM. Hello guys,
I decided to update LGS and firmware to 5.09 (1.41) then 5.10 (1.42) as well and can say it is true. After FW update all forces somehow changed their behaviour (with the same settings). Before FW update to 1.41 you were able to feel different forces while maneuver the airplane (Wings of prey in my case) Pulling airplane up too fast produced more force strength while pulling airplane decently it produced less force strength. As you wrote, now it feels much more like with constant centering force (even it is disabled in profiler) while some strength variables (given by aircraft maneuvering) were lost. (similiar with DCS BS, can't fight with wind) !BUT! I've got very close for now with > Logitech Profiler: Overall (110), Spring (45), Damper (40), Disable "Centering Spring " and set "Centering Spring Strenght" to 0% I have found that ingame FFB strenght makes big differences when I set to 5th or 6th value. Keep trying to stay close to all numbers and tweak with very slow steps. I can recomend to set "Apply persistent profile" under Global Profiler Settings, configure that profile (like above) and to be sure also configure same values to > edit > "specific game settings" under Logitech profiler. At least for first tweaking procedures, to be sure changes are really made and it's doing progress in game. I just realized now maybe that "Spring Effect Strength" etc. under Logitech profiler now works slightly different then before FW update and with settings above I can feel almost the same like before WF update. (I used to have everything on 100% under profiler before update FW) Also when "Centering Spring" is enabled, but strenght is set to 0% I can feel more friction (which feels better indeed) while there are no focres of course at low airspeed etc. I'm thinking now, that guys screaming at forums about wrong FFB after FW update maybe didn't get into this point at all. The more I'm tweaking and playing, the more it feels better then before. Also with FW it seems "mini-joystick" is definitelly fixed and spiking R1/R2 is matter of few screws removal and cable tie instead of one screw. inside. And viola, all negatives are gone ;o) Last edited by Hanzales; 05-05-2011 at 04:25 PM. |
