Default About the control scheme in the 360 version

Hi

First of all, Birds of prey is a great game, but I have a question regarding the control schemes available in the 360 version. I tried the demo both on 360 and PS3, and when I played the last I realized the aviator control scheme and how improved the handling of the game. Not only not having to hold the right stick-button was more confortable while playing (specially in simulator, where the lack of target camera and radar make the visual sighting of the enemies vital, and having to hold down the stick is very annoying), but the rudder and the throttle placed on the bumpers and the triggers was also a nice adittion.
I thought that this was a last hour change made in the demo (after all, the PS3 version demo was released later) and that this feature will made its way in the final game on both versions.

Well, today I bought Il-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey on 360 and I'm a little disapointed: the aviator control layout is nowhere to be found on the 360 version. Maybe I'm over exagerating, but this really annoys me (in fact I'm thinking about selling the game and buying the PS3 version) and I would like to know (if possible) if there are any reason to cut down the control on the 360 version like this.

Thank you

There was a way to change the scheme on the demo? How?

The controls are god awful and its absolutely ludicrous that they removed this from the demo if the option was there for a better set up.

The controls are very closely a deal breaker for me too, but I haven't decided yet.

At least on the PS3 demo. In Profile>Options>Controls, besides showing the button layout, you can choose between control schemes. The second one is called Aviator Layout, and IMHO it works much better than the preset one (the only available in the 360).

Wow. nice find there Mr. Blonde. I too don't like the the gamepad controls in the game, enough to skip it and just stick w/1946 actually. I had grabbed the PS3 demo when it came out to see if it was any different then the 360 one and didn't realise that the "Aviator" scheme was for the pad because I didn't see the schematic pictured. D'oh!

It is much better. No doubt. Almost the perfect Over-G one that I like best for consoles but there's still a problem and that's that it now has an Ace Combat throttle.

That is you can't set a throttle position and leave it. Instead you have to try and hold it's position with the triggers (like you would if you were playing a driving game) and that's not easy, especially with the over sensitive & very short throw on the L2 & R2 of the DS3. Let them go and the plane "idles" at 55% throttle. It would likely be easier to control on the 360 pad but still... you need to be able to set a position and leave it.

So close but still no cigar in my book unfortunately.

Yeah, I don't like either the Ace Combat style throttle, but overral I prefer this button layout. Now I'm trying to find if the final PS3 version also has this.

Aero elite combat academy for ps2 did everything right in the control department. I can't believe developers are boneheaded enough to make such huge mistakes that cost the games hundreds of thousands of dollars in players who can't put up with bad controls when it wouldn't have cost a damn thing to just sit and think for a minute what a logical control setup would be.

Great find there Mr.Blonde.
The control setups are truly awful for both gamepad & flightsticks alike. I tried the wireless controller (Aviator layout) &, as I fly on the simulator setting I can't for the life of me, find a zoom setting & the devs couldn't even be bothered to supply a map or legend for this layout. Does anyone know how to access the zoom view setting on Simulator mode when using ps3 gamepad for the Wireless Controller (Aviator layout)
setting?
Cheers!

Just buy a stick. Regular controllers suck for flying and driving.

Ha!!! I bought the Aviator for 360 & T'master HOTAS for PS3 as I bought copies for both consoles & both sticks are completely unplayable in the game. the Aviator mapping is useless & the T'master doesn't even give you an all round virtual vision but both stick have M A S S I V E dead zone issues!!!
I agree with your comment though.

Hi ! i picked up the 360 version of BoP yesterday and i (like u) am getting it for both consoles. I however will be waiting till they patch the sticks and/or at least hopefully the gamepad. I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to let me know the length of the wires on both (360 / ps3) flight sticks. i keep my consoles probably alittle further from me then most people and would hate to buy and have to return them because i'm alittle to short. Thank you and lets pray for some patchwork soon.
