it's just some extra challenges to shoot for after you've completed the game. some are incredibly difficult to obtain, thereby giving you bragging rights over your friends, assuming your friends are playing the same game.

I wonder if the ones such as "complete XXXX on realistic" will also be triggered if you accomplish this on sim mode. I'm going to try sim out of the gate and I'd hate to try to go back on a lower difficulty later. Then again, I have a feeling that completing everything on sim will be next to impossible.
