The answer to this is likely to be very short, and not sweet, but is there any way to access the Hero's bottles of mana during a battle. I suspect not, but what is the point of having it in his possession because before the battle, it's of no use and afterward, if you survive, it's too late

I always wondered this as well. With mana potions, if you have the time after a fight to quaff a potion, chances are you had the time to get yourself out of the way of a back to back fight. Outside of just speeding up gameplay, I can't see any advantage.
Rage potions are different because it gives you something you cannot gain by standing idle or maneuvering around. |

Mana potions are only usable outside combat, and their purpose is to give you some quick mana if you are low before fighting something. If you don't care about time, yes, they aren't incredibly useful.
And nitelite, thanks to the wonderful pause button, you pretty much always have a chance to quaff a potion, no matter how close the enemy is. There are many situations where there is no possibility of running away. |

But the only purpose other than a time saver(download the mana mod - worth it) is to preserve rage from a previous battle. That way if you used up your mana and ended a battle with a decent amount of rage you can quick swig a mana potion to save your rage before quickly entering another battle.
