Default Having problems starting game

First of all let me simply state I have enjoyed and played many hours with the Kings Bounty demo and had then virtually no problems.

Today I went ahead and purchased the retail version of Kings Bounty from my local best buy and after removing the old demo I went and installed the retail version of Kings Bounty.

When I attempt to start the game then for some reason I get a full BLACK screen but I can still hear the sound from the game intro. If I look in the task man I can see the task running. If I then kill the task and then attempt to re-launch the game then when I start it again then instead of a black screen then I just see my desktop but again still hear the sound from the game itself but just no visual.

As I said the demo worked great, now for some reason I am having problems with the retail.

Below is my DirectX info:

Thank you Nike-It for your response.

I noticed another player named Zogun had re-reported the same issue that I had previously stated. You may want to lock this thread so it does not get rountinely reported in different threads.

Since originally reporting the issue I have modified the Kings Bounty game configuration file in order to activate the windowed mode feature.

When running via the windowed mode then I can actually play the game whereas previously I could not and would have to then wait until it is patched.

If anyone else is having this issue then I would recommend that you change the following "setf ~windowed 0" to "setf ~windowed 1" in the game config file. This file is located in the MY DOCUMENTS\MY GAMES\Kings Bounty.

When starting in windowed mode you may still have to perform a CTRL ALT DEL in order to go into the task manager, from their select the running Kings Bounty task and select Switch to.....

I think I realised what caused the problem. By the time I installed the game and ran it for the first time, I had extended my desktop to my 37 inch TV, this caused the game to detect my screen settings as 1920 * 1080 in resolution, which made it impossible to for my regular monitor to actually show something.

So if anyone else has the same problem, check the "game.ini" in the "Data" map, edit "setf ~screenresoultionx" and "setf ~screenresoultiony" to the appropriate settings for your monitor, and if needed edit "setf ~windowed" to 1 instead of 0 to run the game in windowed mode.

I had to do this as well, and it worked for me.

Thanks for all the help and I hope this will help ppl in the future.

Cheers!

Edit: After starting the game in windowed mode and entering the correct resolution in the settings I no longer have to run the game in windowed mode!

Gentlemen,

I will be glad to be of any assistance. Here are a few suggestions that I would have to ask each of you:

1. Depending upon your graphics card, (i.e. ATI, Nvidia) ensure that you are running the latest driver. When in doubt then please check.

2. Ensure that you have no High Priorty Updates and that your DirectX, Framework levels are optimum. To check open your IE Browser and select TOOLS > Windows Update > Wait for the analysis to complete and then verify that their are no High Priorty updates.

3. Turn off other third party tasks that are not necessary. Check your system tray and close any tasks.

4. Next perform the following command in your Start > RUN window. Command is "DXDiag" without the quotes. Once the window displays verify in each tab that your DirectX contains no errors. You may want to SAVE this info to a text file and post it to this site in order for further assistance.

After performing the above then here are a few questions for you:

Did you modify the game config file as instructed? Is the Windowed mode enabled?

When you launch the game do you see the task running in the Task Manager? Did you select the task and then click on the Switch To button? What happens?

i dont know man.... I did updated directx and changed windowed thing to 1, nothing new happend, still same problem.

its realy odd shit, i mean why the hell does the freaking monitor have to shut down xD. I actually get a picture for a few secs. then monitor shutdowns while i can hear sound. then i need to press alt + f4 to take control over the pc, but after that, the pc gets like 3 times slower, then i need to restart it. i've done this like 5-7 times now trying to fix the shit lol. its probably because i use stupid windows vista, thats all i had when i rebooted my stupid pc.
