Default Plane banking right

I know this issue has been covered countless times and I apologise for dragging it up again but I've yet to find an acceptable solution to what I see as the single most annoying bug in the game.

My experience of the issues is this: On takeoff the plane (either Huricane or Spitfire) will pull hard to the left, which I would expect due to the engine torque. I can generally counter this and get the plane in the air, once up the plane will roll gently to the right, not to the left which engine torque would cause. This effect changes with airspeed/engine speed and prob pitch but never completely goes. This would point at it being linked to engine torque and/or propwash but as already mentioned its the wrong direction. I'm not subscribing to the 'use rudder trim' to cure it as thats acting on a completely different axis to the ailerons/roll axis. Even if it did work, which I cant get it to it would be a fairly poor masking of the problem imo. Almost forgot, torque effects on or off, makes no difference.

One thing I have noticed is that if you look out of each side of the plane the ailerons are trimmed slightly to induce the roll right and the flight stick apears to be very slightly leaning to the right also (its very slight but its there). Could it be that the plane has been ground rigged to counter the engine torque from rolling it left and simply been over done?

My joystick appears to be calibrated ok in both windows control panel and the axis bars centre nicely in the game controls menus. I'm open to any calibration tips/ticks but the rolling problem exists with no joystick at all and using keys.

Again, apologies for dragging this up but resolving this would really make the game more enjoyable.

Thanks

John

I have the same problem, and I couldn't find an ultimate solution. It depends on the calibration of the joystick, but after many attempts I only succeeded in reducing the problem setting the joystick centre a bit fore and to the right. It's even more difficult because the behaviour of single engine airplanes is different from twin engine.

You won't be able to trim the machine, you always have to adjust continuously for straight and level flight. The aeroplanes are unstable and quite sensitive.

I have experienced the same thing. Trying with all realism turned off + playing with keyboard and it's still banking right.

My input indicator shows that my rudder is constantly trim to the right.
I've tried to reset it back to neutral position but it keeps going back to the right.

real life is like that

it banks right cause the huge propeller is spinning left

why dont you try a twin engine plane? no gyro effects there

I think that Hurricane end with a problem that happened with Blenheim in the first version of game.

Their rudder, centered, is adjusted a bit to right, see:

Pictures with F8 camera view. Rudder and rudder trim centered.
In right a Spitfire, with a centered rudder.

Easy to notice if you put the plane in Autopilot, put the camera in F8 and disable the Autopilot, the rudder goes right.

You can counter this with key commands (Need assign key to this in Aircraft).

"Right (or left) rudder one notch".

Two or tree taps to left put Hurri "on rails".

The downsize of this is that every time you use joystick rudder (pedal or twist) this adjust is zeroed and rudder goes right (centered position for game).
People with rudder pedal with programing software - CH, Saitek(?) can made a profile for Hurricane with a adjust to compensate this.

BTW - I dont know if this rudder adjust to right is "historical"...

EDIT - I test this with no axis mapped for rudder and joystick unplugged, same result.

Why turning off the "gyro effect" in the option doesn't disable this effect then?

Raaid: I understand the basic principles of the physics involved and as I understand it the prop actually turns clockwise (from cockpit). I would then expect it to bank left, not right. And as gato mentioned, this happens with or without gyro effects checked.

Interesting spot regarding the rudder being off centre! I'll check that out, I'm not sure its that which is causing my issue though. Reason being that when I use rudder it doesn't tend to bank the plane at all, its stays flat and simply turns in the relavent direction. Definitely worth a try though, thanks.

To anyone who doesn't suffer this problem, may I ask a favour? I would like some screen shots from the cockpit, straight ahead and looking down one click if that makes sense. Reason I ask is that I want to compare the angle of the control stick. I can then match the res and compare them directly with mine to see if my suspitions are correct!

Cheers chaps.

Not only the rudder, also the flaps are in a "bank to right" position when centered. I have many doubts that this is historical, but I'm sure that it's very annoying.
