Default OT: question about the spam

Ok a serious question about the spamming, nothing about what we should do to them or anything like the last thread we had (was kind of humorous though ).

Anyway. What really is the purpose of spamming a forum such as this? Are there people really stupid enough to not only click on the link but hand over a credit card number for whatever is on the other side of that link? It should be well known by now that most of those links lead to either viruses, trojans and or other malware so what's the point? Is it just to cause problems or do this somehow generate income? I guess its just me but seems kind of stupid.

In general there ARE indeed people who don't understand the difference between legitimate posts on a forum or in their e-mail inbox. I've dealt with them. I've educated some of them...some just cannot recognize and sort legitimate from illegitimate e-mail. Unfortunately these spammers prey on these people (they are victims ultimately) and the cycle continues.

Now I would say with some confidence that people on a forum such as this aren't going to be making the same mistake. Everyone should critically analyze the information they are being bombarded with...and given the personalities we see here and on other IL-2 and aviation related forums I think its safe to say that people here are more than capable
