Default Companion?

Guys, is there a companion (or a wife) in this game who travels with you in your inventory, gives you some bonuses and you can load up with items? You know, like in previous games? (And I don't mean the valkyries.)

There's a talking bird that gives you scrolls and has a bit to say about stuff.

Anyways why don't Valkyries count? The each have personal quests, powers (in combat and out), and have a nice amount of dialog. They also give passive stat bonuses.

The only thing I can think of that the other companions had that the Valkyries don't is some extra space for items.

^Valkyries offer little in terms of customization. CW allowed us to run orcs by using Moldok as a companion, for example. Valkyries have very generic effects, in general, and while they do give good, all-around benefits, the inability to tinker around with them makes them rather bland.

I mean, for people who like making awesome builds, a good companion from the previous games will almost always be preferred over Valkyries.

Lol, the only thing? It makes a huge impact ,not having those extra slots for some good items.

Not really, the passive bonus (some of them are decent, like the +rage and +leadership) as well as special abilities are pretty nice. I do like the companions from the previous game too, but it's nice to have some change. Every KB game seems to have these tweaks/changes here and there.

Also, I like making awesome builds too, thanks.

@Razorflame
If you didnt like bonuses form babies in original game the Legend, try out HoMM3 babies mod for it. It gives some great variation in game and whole new aspect in wife/kids section.

So I guess it's a no? There're no companions except the valkyries?

Well, this sucks. In previous games companions not only allowed some degree of customization, they also functioned as extra inventory space. Why did they remove it? What were the developers thinking? This is stupid, just stupid...
