Default What has my wife done to my PC? (Edited from "What have you guys done to my PC?" LOL)

Ok...

I haven't posted on here for a long time now...

My PC was virus free, is as secure as it possibly can be and was working absolutely 100% until I allowed Steam to install the new patch.

As soon as I clicked "play" to see how the new patch worked, I suddenly found I have no sound (Works fine for everything except Cliffs of Dover) and my monitor is now no longer identified by Windows 7, saying it is a generic non-pnp monitor! I also had to restart the PC with a hard restart as, when doing it via the restart button, it came back with a black screen.

I have not installed anything recently apart from the new patch and a photograph from my camera. The new patch is the only change to my system.

Coincidence?

Anyway... sound came back mysteriously.... monitor still not recognised (Will have to look into that)....

But I will say that I have just run Black Death with an average fps of 41 so I shall shut up now.

Just a bit

I've also uncovered what may have caused the problem now....

Seems that, despite my constant warnings, the missus has been sweeping near the PC instead of using the vacuum cleaner! Just removed what looked like the contents of Tutankhamun's underpants from my case... and now everything is working swimmingly..... and make that an average of 51 on Black Death!

The volume problem I had too with the new patch, I'm not sure if its something conflicting but the game occasionally resets itself to 0% volume in the Windows Volume Mixer.
Had to minimize the game whilst flying to turn the game volume back up again, not fun when your flying across the wave tops in a Blenheim

Had to get on here and chime in on this - I am in exactly the same boat, the moment after I installed the steam patch and tried to run cliffs my computer started to shit itself.. I am currently on a Kaspersky Rescue Disk, unable to restore to an earlier point and PC won't boot at all, just a black screen. Waiting for a disk to reinstall windows currently, it's absolutley borked.. The plot thickens!

Ah... so others are experiencing similar incidents with or without wives sweeping dust into their PCs?

Curiouser and curiouser.....

EDIT: Okay... just ran CloD again and, halfway through Black Death the monitor went black like it had gone into standby mode. I could still hear the engines of the planes so kept pressing "Esc" to go back to the menu.... no result just endless engine noise.

I'm now not entirely sure I even want to risk playing this.

My bet is this was the problem. In the new patch files were changed on the 1st or 2nd boot (it was 2nd for me) of the game.
