Default Pics from Udvar Hazey Air & Space Museum become a pilot day..

Last weekend I went to the Udvar Hazey Air & Space Museum with the East Coast Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. We had a table there... and we told the story. My son came and another chapter member brought his daughter.. The made candy airplanes out of Smarties, Life Savers, Big Red gum & rubber bands. We talked to the people. I brought my PC and booted up the sim. Everyone loved it. I can't tell you how many dads there were there asking me where to get the software. When I told them $20 at any retail store they almost fell out. It wouldn't surprise me if there were not some new folks here who got here because of this. Overall there were 15,000 people there that day. We were there from 0800-1500. There were a few sim tables there... 2 running FS9, one running FSX, and of course our sim. Needless to say... the longest lines were at our sim. I made little bookmarks for the chapter and little cards with details about the sim and this site and a brief history of Maddox & 1C. Of course I also had my squad site there as well...

We had 3 student pilots there.. well actually two were student pilots, one was already licensed, another, the tall one was soloing the very next day, and one was just finishing ground school. They were all members of the T.A.I. Youth in Aviation program.

Overall it was a big success.. here ae a few pictures. I really didnt have time to do the whole museum tour thing.. but I have been there @7 times since it opened.. and Emmanuel & I were there on opening day.

Note the Jug & the Zeke and that big plane is The Enola Gay in the background.. It was funny too because we were right across from to the 190 there was a Hurri & a P-38 across the way.. the Corsair & the P-40 were hanging across the floor, There was an Arado, a Okha, a Do-335, a 110, a Mustang (a racing one.. but hey.. it's a Mustang..) I kept telling folks "Y'see that plane over there? It is in this sim.. see that one? it's in the sim.. so's that one, that one & that one.." One kid asked me skeptically "Yeah? well what about that thing over there with the two propellers? " (Talking about the Do-335).... I went to the sim, brought it up and let him fly it... they all were blown away....

SCORE!!!!!!

The 3 kids in the t shirts are from the Y.I.A. program.

This kid soloed the next day...

Working it...

The kids loved the sim.. and their parents, particularly the dads had that ... look in thier eyes.. You could see the wheels turning.. "I gotta find the time and money for this hobby... " and a lot of the mothers were going "I'm watching you.... "in true Dinero fashion as daddy drooled & licked his lips. I was pouring it on too.. but I was honest.. I told them it can suck you in...

Not an OTA (Original Tuskegee Airmen).. but an Airman none the less (As are we all.. ) We couldn't get any this year.. they were all either sick or out of town.

Everyone was busy as bees... and the folks just kept coming.

Future simmers or better yet pilots perhaps?

E & Shayna fin ally got a chance to mess with the sim near the end. The lines were so long and they were so busy making airplanes.

Chapter Members & Maj. Otis Jones U.S.A.F. Otis flies heavies

Well done BC!

Really, really great idea and a good way to promote our hobby!

Must have been a lot of fun to give people the chance to fly the planes they came to admire. And watch their reactions when at least get a glimpse of what it was to fly these planes.

Thumbs up Visit to the Udvar Hazey Air & Space Museum

Well done BC - excellent PR for the game. It just proves a point that not many people realise how good this flight sim is until they start playing it!

In one of your pictures I could see the Aichi M6A1 Seiran Japanese submarine floatplane in the background. This aircraft, along with the submarine I-400 was surrendered to the US after the war - I have always wondered what happened to it?

Nice Work Mate, It's amazing how people react to seeing this sim, even considering how long in the tooth it is.

nice post BC !

good to see the history of the Tuskegee Airmen being promoted, they had an excellent reputation as reliable and effective escort fighters over europe during ww2.
