Played IL-2 long ago, the only (combat) flight simulator that has ever held my interest..then I lost my disc. few years later now and I bought it on steam, I'm very impressed that by looking at these forums, the game is still going strong. and to this day I can't think of any game I'd rather fly in then here.
The question I have is one that I can't find easily elsewhere. What should I do with it now? I noticed that there is a patch out, But do I need any files aside from the patch to update it? I know some of the older games can be tricky that way.. Currently enjoying flying as a D3a1 pilot in dive bombing missions and my main interest is the single player campaign. so Multiplayer patches won't be the biggest deal to me, but if single player is expended in any way then i'd like to get into it.. thank you for anyone who takes the time to reply to this and I apologize if i don't sound clear or bad grammar...not slept recently ![]() |

Hi Jing0000,
Welcome back. There have been several patches out for Il2 1946, which you will have to install in order before you get to the latest 4.11.1. The disc version comes as version 4.07m so it has to be patched with 4.08m, 4.09m, 4.10m, 4.11m, and finally 4.11.1. I don't know what version steam gives you (it may be 4.08 or 4.09) but you can see what version you have by looking at the red writing on the bottom left corner of the loading screen. It is advisable to backup the game after installing and checking each patch, to prevent you having to start from scratch in case you get a corrupted download. Here is a link to another forum thread about patching; http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=31667 The patches have given us many improvements to the stock game, more maps, more aircraft, 6DOF, improved AI (this is still work in progress), to name but a few. Hope this was useful. PilotError.

Thank you for the reply I'll look into patching it up then. A.I improvements are always fun, though it can be hard enough in my dive bomber
