Tonight I just got through installing a dedicated VOIP PBX server on an old intel core 2 6700 machine I had lying around. Wow how cool!
I can now ditch my old crappy DECT handsets and am using my various softphones installed on PC's, laptops and iphones around the house as extensions. So I now use the iphone (with BT headset) to answer or make calls on my home VOIP number or my headsets for the PCs. I installed 3CX Phone System on the old PC as the main PBX, 3CXPhone on the PC's & Laptops and 3CXPhone for iPhone. (using wifi to connect iphones/laptops to PBX) It backgrounds on iphone too without chewing battery! Best of all it was all free software and is a windows based PBX which is really easy to configure vs the Linux Asterisk versions. So if any of you are using a VOIP service at home you should give this a go! ![]() Also an android softphone version too... 3CX Phone System FREE edition is a fully functional product - it supports an unlimited number of extensions and does NOT time out. It is supported only via the 3CX Forums. You get: Call Logging Call Reporting Blind Call Transfer Attended Call Transfer Call Forward on Busy Call Forward on No Answer Call Routing (DID) Caller ID Conference Calling Auto Attendant / Digital Receptionist Voice Mail Music on Hold Ring Groups Hunt Groups Central Phonebook Receive Voice Mail via Email This is basically a slightly cutdown commercial version completely free. The paid version does a lot more but nothing you really need as a home user! ![]() My PC softphone.... looks identical on the iphone except for the side panels. ![]() Server config screen ![]() www.3cx.com Last edited by FS~Phat; 07-20-2012 at 02:41 PM. |
