Hawker Hurricane serial numbers

I am trying to find a resource site which details the serial numbers for the Hawker Hurricane specifying where they went. In particular I'm looking for information on No.501 Squadron.

In my complete web uselessness I haven't had much joy so if anybody can help, many thanks

501 Sqn:
These four were shot down by Oblt Gerhard Schoepfel of III./JG26 in a solo attack 1.05 pm:
P3208 destroyed P/O J Bland KIA

P3059 destroyed P/O K Lee baled out wounded

P3815 destroyed P/O F Kozlowski baled out wounded

Battle of Britain Then and Now Vol V:

11 July: N2485 shot down. 12th: P3084 shot down. 20th: P8032 shot down. 21st: L2083 force landed, cause unknown, repairable. 27th: P3808 shot down. 31st: P3646 crashed and burned after combat w/Ju87s; P3349 undershot runway, repairable.

7 August: P3041 & P3083 collided during landing, both repairable. 12th: P3397 force landed, repairable; P3803 MIA; N2329 Undercarriage failure, repairable; P2986 damaged landing on damaged runway, repairable. 15th: P3582, P3040 shot down; V7230 RTB damaged. 18th: (see above). 24th: P3141 MIA; L1659 damaged during combat, crash landed Hawkinge, repairable; L1865 shot down. 27th: R4222 landed damaged during combat, repairable. 30th: P8816 landed damaged during combat, repairable; 31st: V6540 shot down.

2 September: V7230; force landed damaged in combat, repairable; V7234 shot down; L1578 MIA; (unspecified damaged in combat). 5th: V6644 shot down. 6th: V6612, V6646 shot down; P3516 FTR following combat. 11th: P5200 shot down. 13th: P2793 radiator shot up while shooting down He 111, pilot baled out. 15th: P2760; shot down; V7433 force landed damaged, repairable. 17th: V7357, P3820 shot down. 18th: V6600, V6620 shot down. 27th: V6672, V6645 shot down. 28th: V7497, P3417 SD-W shot down; P3605 combat damage, repairable. 30th: L1657 combat damage, repairable.

4 October: V6733, V7498 SD-E force landed in deteriorating weather, both repairable. 7th: V6800 shot down, V6799 SD-X collided w/ Bf 109 which was destroyed, landed damaged, repairable. 15th: V6722 shot down; P5194, V6787 landed damaged in combat, repairable. 17th: V6703 severely damaged during bombing attack on base (Kenley) but repairable. 25th: P2903, V6806 mid air collision, 1 pilot killed; P5193 believed shot down, repairable (?) N2438 Reputedly shot down (?). 29th: P3714 force landed engine failure, repairable; V7595 crashed routine patrol pilot unhurt.

Further to that; there is a photo in B of B Then and Now, p. 112., of two Hurricanes of 501 Sqn taking off from Hawkinge, some time between August 12 and 18: SD-N was P3059 and SD-T was P3208, both of which were shot down by Schoepfel on the 18th.

there is a really in depth book called "The Hawker hurricane" by Francis K Mason which lists all the hurries by serial number and what happened to them throughout their careers. It's also a very good read. Unfortunately it doesn't index them by squadron just by serial number.
If you have a mind to look it up you wont be dissapointed, it's a great book.

There is a book called "British Military Aircraft Serials: 1878-1987". I imagine this contains the information you want, though I've never read it myself.
