Default CLOD with Joystick

Wow! Had a great christmas present today.. actually playing clod with a joystick now instead of the keyboard.. its brilliant but Im struggling a bit.. have got the cannon set to a button on the top of the stick, machine guns as the trigger.. I have a slider for throttle but what else should I set on the joystick buttons?
I have up to 10 other buttons,, its a logic3 stick

Good Grief!

No joystick until now?

Mate, you're just about to start on the road to discovery of what it's all about. I kinda envy you in a way!

I'm assuming the stick has a 'hat switch' for looking around? Twistable rudder control?

Back when I had a logitech 3D Pro, I assigned all the buttons on the base to elevator up and down trim, rudder left and right trim and flaps up and down. I don't know how many buttons yours has I'm afraid.

You can use the redundant left/right/up/down arrows on the keyboard for prop pitch increase/decrease and mixture increase/decrease controls.

Buttons on the top of the stick can be arm bombs, bomb doors open and drop bombs.

But you'll soon come up with your own arrangement which suits.

Happy new stick!

Much more fun, game seems smoother somehow also.. find it harder to look around tho, used to use mouse to free look, now with joystick i have that hi hat thumb for it but not as easy!
