Default Who's getting one for Christmas?

Anybody getting a Sony Personal HMZ-T1 3D Viewer for Christmas? I have been seeing some quite good reviews for it although headphones are not so brilliant it seems. Because of the enthusiastic reception it has had so far Sony have gone into full production and they will be generally available early December but at £800 I wont be getting one any time soon. Although each screen is only 720 dpi people seem to find them as good if not better than 72 inch screens especially in 3D. It also seems likely the next generation will be 1080 dpi. I would be most interested in hearing a review from an IL2 and CloD user should any take the plunge.

I want to get one, but I am still reserved about it being a first gen product. Mainly because there is no gyroscope built in. Also, I want to test it in person to see how big the FOV is and how easy it is to mod it.

Edit: Oh, where did you hear that the next gen will be 1080p?

It was in one of the forums. Because the latest screens being developed for phones, cameras etc are that resolution then they would undoubtably be used in visors.

I looked at two 3D TV's at Best Buy, recently, and was not impressed. The 3D affect was made by what looked like flat cut outs of people, for instance, placed one in front of another, to make one seem closer than the other. The same was true for trees, boulders, and furniture, among other things. So, while there was what you might call "depth", it just wasn't realistic.

I decided to pass, until what I see on the screen looks like "Avatar". When the "Tree of Life" was burning, I would swear ashes were falling right in front of me.

Well, supposedly having the two independent screens will make the 3d experience better (no crosstalk). Also, many movies suffer from paper cut out effect because they were never captured in 3d or just didn't get good implementation.

I'd imagine games, where all the content is rendered on the fly(and hopefully tweaked based on user preferences), the 3d effects would be more realistic. Most of the people who have had experience with HMZ-T1 mentioned how incredible it was with the PS3 games.

Even if the 3d effect isn't really there, if the FOV of the screens is great enough, it'd be pretty immersive by itself.

•Virtual Image Size : 750 inches at 65 feet distance (effectively 150" at 12 feet)

Now with the spit fire having a wingspan of about 36' 10" (about 442"). That means at about 40' we'ld have a full sized plane?

Cool!

Not as good looking as their glastron from a few years back. They were only 800x600 but you could make them semi transparent and overlay your computer generated image over your real life view.

I never saw them in real life but the Australia Army was using them in a technology demonstration for their "Soldier of the Future" with data links and a video sight from their assult rifles!

Cheers!
