Massive Velvets fan Ali (though they were well before my time), and Lou Reed solo ('transformer' is a great record) ; while this was 'interesting', I don't think it really worked IMO. I saw this live on Jools too, never been a Metallica fan though I did like a few songs from 'And Justice for All' as well as the 'black' album. Though he's a legend, I have to say IMO that Reed is well past his creative peak. Was good to see though, regardless.

Do you like any of the Velvets John Cale's solo stuff? Hes done some good work.....and some very good collaborations too. This is Cale playing piano, organ and Celeste/Celesta on English singer/songwriter Nick Drakes 'Northern Sky' (beautiful song). Glad Drake is getting lots of fans now because of YT (particularly in the US mainly due to crappy TV car commercials and few films etc, but who cares.....listened to him since I was a teen. The more the merrier I say, quality will always out).

indeed a john a cale fan !

Nobody likes this loutallica thing. Lou has been getting death threats about it apparently. the dislikes out weigh the likes 3 to 1. incredible.

For me music has slumped recently to even higher lows since the late eighties. i think im really digging this because of that. Strange. But i see things..... generational changes about to occur. i believe we are about to transition where music and culture is concerned, very much like the british indy music scene did in 89/90. its all happening again and well funnily enough the folks that sparked that are about to have a third coming !!! soon we will all be wanting to join and form bands again, those that know music will know what i mean by that. creative is back manufactured is out.

im a die-hard metallica fan, so when i knew about this i tought "okay, ill listen to it, but i will not be expecting metallica"

given this, i listened to the album. its bad, repetitive unninteresting, spoke (instead of sung). i would give it some 2/10....

well, for as long as they dont tour it im fine.

So you got a ticket for the Roses then Ali? Seen them live 4 times back in the day man, happy dayz. Saw a Mondays reunion (as well as them back then) and it wasn't as good. Not sure about the reformation, but good luck to em lol.....I'll stick with the memories meself.

Remember, its not where you're from, its where you're at. Innit, though?

Love the Stone Roses, frikking great band. Didn't see em at Spike island as I was a little too young, but some older lads I knew went and they reckoned they were crap on the day.....sound was all over the shop. More the experience though, had a mop top back then and still have me old baggies and a flowery shirt too....'Its gotta be a loose fit' like, hahaha.

Cheers.

no tickets for me, and well ive actually nearly shed a tear about that one as it is simply very important for me. very dissapointed. but then again the venue Heaton park is a dive apparently, but relativly close to me. Blackpool area. i will await a possible visit to my hometown of glasgow, The carling academy venue is where they should sound good.

was good to see shaun on celeb juice the week past there. He really has sorted himself out. i remeber The Word, back in the day , him , Bez, George and zippy. ohh yeah !. That was where cultural liberalism overtook the stiff upper lip attitude And anyone could be famous and anyone could make it happen. soon later we were singing anthems about ciggarettes and alcohol and giving the finger to the fore notion of political correctness in favour of some reality acceptance. WE need some fun and We are going to have it on our own terms.

im coming to this with really really fresh eyes&ears regards metallica, the closest i got to beiing interested was playing One on guitar hero lol.

velvet underground had a few spoken songs by lou.

i question wether adapting to this is the problem and through that simply down to individual expectations. There really isnt one metallica fan out there that digs this project one little bit. but yet here we potentially have a new metallica fan. that being Me.\o/ and thus i feel we have a deep herd mentality inability to accept change and new things. thats the sad part imo.

i tried the album Lulu. i like the song the view and i do like lou`s inexplicble ramblings. its dark illusive and in todays music climate bloody fresh to hear. i thought that live performance was absolutely banging. must have been inspiring to be there imo.

When i last heard lou reed live with the original Velvet underground line up it was incredible. The VU in there artistic wizdom had a fascination with winding people up taking them away from there comfort zone, frustrating them to the point of utter anxiousness then they would bring it back. quite a cruel expereince seeing them live. and possibly alot to do with Andy Warhol !!! but an expereince that had to be had at the same time for the sake of the musical arts.

This is why this Loutallica thing actually works. Given the Fact the the VU is no more and never will be anything anymore the insight behind reviving something as awkward as what the VU did could only be done by metallica. wether you like the result or not imo this is art, this is concept, for me its as fresh as i could expect in the music & arts given what the social masses are FED day after day !.

i leave it with the Gift from the velvet underground.
