Default Buying new VGA to play CoD

Hi guys,
I'm buying a new VGA to be able to better play CoD.

Is the sim running best on ATI or NVIDIA cards?

Does it make any difference to have 1 or 2GB of VRAM?
(as in most games it doesnt, according to benchmarks)

Thanks.

Plenty of posts on that subject m8..did you try a search first?

Anyway at this moment in time Im not sure the make of card makes much difference now though before the ATI users had the blue horizon line syndrome though im sure its fixed now..

1 or 2 Gig? 2gig cards are running better here as a whole..the more VRam seems the better choice but this game is being optimized still so wait untill the next official release (this friday?) comes out and see what people are saying in terms of what card they have and what performance gains they have with the new patch

I did search, but in other threads there are lots of opinions, and no real tests to find out the differences.

I was wondering if someone benchmarked the sim using different VGA in the same system.

Yes lots of opinions, I buy which ever I think is best at the time be it either AMD or nvdiia.

For il2 I would say nvidia cards would give you more bang for buck, regarding the benefits of vram the more the merrier but I would try and find some info on 2gb vs 3 gb.... you want at least 2.

If you have the money then I would go for the 580 3GB, stay away from the 590/6990 atm bad sli/xfire.

Im using the 580sc 1.5gb, and the game runs slick like buttered glass.
smoother than I ever thought it would run, ever, to be honest. Last patch was a hell of a big deal.

Just fyi, there is as far as I know one video card manufacturer who makes a 570 with over 2 gb of vram: EVGA gtx570.

They make the "normal" models as well, with 1280 mb vram, but they have one model with more vram, might be an alternative to the more expensive 580.

I agree with you NedLynch, I don't intend to buy a very expensive card, as my 6850 runs the game ok.
It seems that the GPU is enough, but the VRAM is insuficient, as I can see in GPU-Z where it shows the VRAM Full, and another 800MB of "dynamical memory" allocated.

I think for those that can't afford a really expensive card, a 560,570,68xx,6950 with 2GB is ok.

Well, the thing is gtx560's normally come with 1gb vram, 570's with 1280gb vram.
I just had a quick look around and as I said the only manufacturer to make 2gb models of the 560 and 570 is EVGA and they have one model for each.

580's normally come with 2gb of vram, but there are a couple more brands that offer a 3gb model of the 580.
