Default Game tweak, anyone?

Hello fellow flyers,
I've been flying IL2 for some years but I'm still a newbie at computer. After the latest official patch, I still only get about 25 fps (no visible improvement from US release) with everything set on low and all the options unchecked. And 10fps is common with some of the options set to high.
So my question is, what r some of the common reasons that cause the low fps (both game and computer)? I heard there r many ways I can tweak my computer to make it perform better but can you guys please give me some directions as what to search for? Maybe some helpful websites I can read?
My specs r in my sig.
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance!!

Default Read, read and read again!

Hello Lololopoulos!

O.k. this remembers me back in 2001 when I bought myself my first PC for IL2/ forgotten battles. After install I had lousy performance. So what I did? I started to read everything bout PC's and they're components, opened up the case looked inside, started to change memory, GPU and so on and fight the noises.
Hey common its all in the internet these days! If I want (and have time) the information's and answers are just few seconds away.

Look at "http://www.tomshardware.co.uk" or here in this forum, there is so much to see! Or you can use youtube, search for "how to change a graphics card" (just tried and found in 10 seconds)! What about friends and colleagues?

Personally I can give you the advice to update your GPU card first! But that depends on PSU power, place in your rig and of course money...

Happy searching!

Regards,
Shotglass

your video card (GPU) is pretty weak for this and CPU is very good...Im almost sure its a "show stopper" for you...

some advises you can find here (for tuning up your rig):
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showpos...4&postcount=13

also make sure you defrag your game cache files (steam-right click on il2 COD - local files - defrag cache gaem files)....
then..you can overclock your CPU too....for info you can google...

btw this thread belongs to performance topic...

Where do you live mate? (you can probably guess where I am from that line)

I would be willing to sell you a (slightly used) ATI 6870 1gb for a hundred AUD.

You should overclock your i7, and your RAM and buy a new video card

Be more specific about the video card. It's probably the bottleneck in your rig. This game eats as much video memory as it can get. As an example, in my machine while playing ClOD the vid memory use is >2500 MB out of 3 GB.
If you have less than 1 GB of video ram (recommended: 1.5-2 GB), your performances will be very poor.
If you are unsure, download MSI Afterburner and check the in-game memory use.

Cheers,
Insuber

As you can see from my sig, my system is similar to yours apart from the graphics card, which I only changed from an ATI5770 a couple of weeks ago.

With the 5770, I could run on overall Medium settings, with shadows, grass and roads switched on, no AA, no epi, noo ssao, no v-sync. With these settings, the game was playable, with an average fps in Black Death track of 20fps (which of course is designed to test limits, with all the smoke and other effects).

When I upgraded the card to the one in the sig, (1280mb VRAM), with game maxed out and everything on except epi filter, the game runs as smooth as silk, with Black Death average of 30fps, the max being limited to 60fps by the v-sync. With this off, max frames go up to 80.

So if you can afford it ok, go for a better Graphics card is my opinion, but with the problems with crossfire and sli, a single core one. On the other hand, if the promised new graphics engine arrives soon, as this might resolve the crossfire / sli issues, maybe you could buy another 57** series and have it in crossfire, as long as you have the expansion slots on your motherboard. This would be cheaper of course, but given my experience so far, if you bought one like mine, you wouldn't be disappointed.

You don't mention your power supply, but I also had to upgrade this from the original Dell p/s in order to provide the card with enough juice.

Hope this helps.

Same for me, game runs like crap. I could go though the list of tweaks but I could also spin around in circles, come back to the game and say I got 3 more frames...lol

I think everyone is right about needing a new video card. I too have a 5770 CF and that's my problem. I have been waiting for the Nvidia 600 series to come out but thats not going to happen till 2012. Well back to EVE online, I guess, till patch\new cards are out.
