Default Tree Flicker

Hey all

Been wondering about this a while, it was clear from the tree bug a while back that the trees have a large performance impact on the game in terms of fps and stuttering. Also the visual aspect I personally find very ugly with their constant flicker and shaking. View in full screen sorry bout the low bit rate.

This can be tested by turning trees off and watching the resulting fps increase and reduction (albeit small) in stutters.

Surely yes the use of speed tree is easy and quick for tree placement, but for performance clearly it is not, maybe the answer lays in taking a more simple approach by making say 5 static tree models and using them.
Then at least we could have them as solid objects to collide with and maybe reduce the horrid flicker effect that hurts the eyes.
(if anyone has a solution to reduce this flicker effect other than turning trees off please do tell)
I have tried AAx2 as shown in the video but nothing seems to stop it.

Tree doesn't flicker, instead what you see is aliasing created by leaf and can be addressed with AA.
Trees on CoD are crazily detailed, are even better that in some "ground" games!
You can't ask for 2D "X autorotating" trees as it wouldn't even resolve the collision detection problem which is not related to tree models complexity.

Ok so I'm presuming then that the trees braches move,so when AA comes into the game we wont have what seems to be aliasing from those branches that are moving?

Wow, so that is the tree flickering effect I have been hearing so many people complain about? I always assumed people meant that they were like flickering on and off, like vanishing completely and reappearing. I was like "wow sure am glad my trees work great!"

Seriously wow this is like the story of the Princess and the Pea.

The only problem i have with the terrain is flickering tree shadows, but it's only a minor issue. Apart from that, the game is FN Fantastic!

I love how the poorly aimed & fired cannon shells, fall & explode like a shower of fireworks ... so nice!
