Default AI vs player flares and bombs

Since we now have the ability to select bombs by location etc, how do you get an AI plane to drop just flares over an area and them bomb something later or probably better to have a flare ship equipped with only flares drop flares over an airfield and then the other flight does the bombing?? As a player one could do both by dropping flares then coming back over the target again etc.?? A TB-3 nite raid would be tons of fun to execute but how to task it out with mixed loads??

Yes,check out the Russian bombers New loads, lots of Sab flares and then bombs.SB carries flares under wings and bombs in bomb bay, also huge rraab cluster bomber pods. Flares work good dropped by player as needed while other flight does ground attack, just hard to synchronize.

THe problem with flares, is that you can't see them from a good height.

You must plan the bombing from low altitude.

I have discovered SABs by accident while testing new SB over Crimea. Switched to night time and created fantastic illumination along the coast.

Backt to topic: I don't think FMB allows to choose sequence of mixed load drops, am I wrong. May be there are some mods for that.

You can adjust on what height the flare starts to iluminate, just like selecting fuzes on bombs.

First time TD introduced flares, I fall directly on the mission builder and devloped a mission with pathfinders dropping flares over the target, and followed it myself with a bomber wing at 8000m.

I was dissapointed, I was already planing to build a whole night bombing campaign on it.

Like you said, that 5000 limit, doesn't imply that the higher bombing altitude could be set over there, because you need to see them from afar, forcing you to bomb from no more than 3000m if you pretend to hit anything.

The bad thing with that, is that you loose the main advantage of flying so high, that is to make things very difficult for opposing fighters.

Anyway, lights are good enough for building missions on earlyer periods. They are just not good enough for pathfinders missions.

Did you ever tried to work on building a "hole" on the lightning layer?
Maybe this could do the trick.
