Unhappy IL2 1946 wont start, please help!! :(

Hi, I just recently bought IL2 1946 off steam, and its not working... It installed 100% fine, but when I tried to start it, it would just put a loading circle next to my mouse, then everything would go back to normal, like nothing happened. I am running on Windows 7, and my graphics card is fine... I really want to play this game and everytime it doesnt work, I get more mad... I have tried pretty much very fix... Fixing the .dll files for the sound, changing resolution in the conf.ini file within the game folder... But, if you can find another fix, or have any ideas, please tell me!!! Thanks!!!

Run the il2fb.exe as admin.

If that's not working...........

Better still would be to create a folder on your hard drive named IL2 1946

EG: C:\IL21946

Then copy only the contents of the steam installation files from program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/il21946

Run the game from this folder making a new shortcut to the IL2fb.exe

You will find most online pilots here at the Hyperlobby > http://hyperfighter.sk/download-file-18.html

In addition to installing and running IL2 in Admin mode, it's also possible that you might need to create a separate directory for IL2 outside of the usual Program Files or Programs Files (x86) directories within your C:\ drive (or whatever your primary HD is).

So:

C:\
|
--> IL2
Program Files
Program Files (x86)
etc.

Also, double check that you don't have a corrupted copy due to download issues. In any case, it couldn't hurt to do an uninstall/reinstall in case you accidentally damaged an essential file. (Assuming you haven't done those things already.)

As another diagnostic, open up Task Manager (right click start > Task Manager), try to start IL2 and look for it in the list of active programs or background applications. That will tell you if IL2 is running, but just refusing to open, or failing to start at all. That might help your troubleshooting.

Because it's crashing on the very early part of the initialization I'm going to assume it's something to do with maybe the video subsystem.

ChurroBurro, what are your computer specs and maybe more importantly what video card and driver versions are installed right now?

I'm guessing if we were to watch from the Task Manager we'd see il2fb.exe come up briefly, take up some memory, not respond and then crash hard.

Hey everyone, sorry for not being active here. I have reinstalled 4 times now, and I installed steam in C:/steam so that all my game will be placed in there. Still does the same thing... I have verified and no corrupted files. I am running on windows 7 with Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 with Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-3210M CPU @2.50 GHz 64 bit. I am starting to get really annoyed, Someone please help me. Thanks!!!

And also, I just checked, and yes, IL2fb.exe does come up for about 1/2 a second and then just goes away...
