Default Possible computer upgrade

I have a quote for updating my current computer, which is 32 bit XP, 3gb ram, and 1T HD.

I'll have the hard drive partitioned, so that I can keep XP running, too.

Does the below sound like a system that would handle CoD, and other future sims, for awhile?

Asus Sabertooth P67 motherboard
EVGA GTX570HD 1280 MB GDDRS Memory
8gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel Ci7 2600k 3.4 Ghz 8mb cache
Installation

This machine rocks!

I am sorry I am lazy to check the specs of your motherboard, does it support SLI? (worthwhile investment for the future)
And the Power Supply, is it in the 800W - 1000W range (also worthwhile)

That should be fine (at least I hope so - I've just ordered a similar setup, though I've gone for an ATI HD 6970 GPU) The SabreTooth MoBo supports SLI/Crossfire. As GRAthos says, youll want at least an 800 W psu if you are going to run dual 570s - 1000 W might be more sensible. I'd make sure you have plenty of cooling, too.

The motherboard does have SLI. I won't know about the power supply requirement until Monday.

I had a feeling I was going overboard, but maybe this will keep me from needing any upgrades for some time to come.

Thanks,

It might be worth thinking about more RAM. From what I can figure out, you need to get it in a matched set for best results, so increasing later means replacing the lot.

My spec:

Antec Three Hundred Black Mid Tower Case
Asus Sabertooth TUF X58 MoBo
Intel i7 950, Quad Core, 3.06Ghz CPU (will be overclocked a little)
Alpenfohn Matterhorn The Beast CPU Cooler
12GB (3x4GB) Corsair Vengeance, DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600) RAM
ATI 2GB XFX HD 6970, 880Mhz GPU
1000W Corsair CMPSU-1000 HX PSU
128GB Crucial Real SSD
1TB Western Digital Caviar Green HDD

Custom build - from Scan.

Andy sptted one good point:

Personally I do not think that we will need more RAM than 6GB for the next couple of years.

But how will you put
Quote:
8gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz
???

The new mobos require THREE banks of the same type (not two like the older ones):
Therefore you can go for 3x1Gb DDR3 = total 3Gb RAM <-NOT RECOMMENDED
or 3x2Gb DDR3 = total 6Gb RAM <- RECOMMENDED
or 3x4Gb DDR3 = total 12Gb RAM <- if the price difference is negligable

Depends on the mobo, there are some around which support triple with 4 slots occupied.

According to Asus, the SABERTOOTH P67 supports 4 * DIMM - the model I'm going for is different, and has 6 slots, but only supports 3 unless you fork out for really pricy RAM (go figure...). I thought about getting the later MoBo, but the spec on my new PC keeps creeping upwards, and I had to draw a line somewhere. I'll be able to upgrade to a hex core CPU anyway, if I want even more grunt.

I'd agree that 8 GB of RAM should be fine for CloD, but it is worth bearing in mind that upgrading seems to imply replacing all the RAM, for a matched set, so it is not a good idea to scrimp if you plan on upgrading later. I may try using some of the RAM as a RAM drive with CloD too.

P 67 spec from Asus: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...specifications. Looks good.
