Default Is the latest patch (1.09) going to be implemented as an automatic game update?

I notice that there's a new patch and also that I can't fly on ATAG without it.

Now, if this is the final patch, (as I understand it is supposed to be) can I assume it will be introduced as an automatic update at some point soon? I ask because as far as I know this updating hasn't happened yet and secondly because I find this patching business very trying - which is why I haven't attempted it yet.

If it isn't going to be automatic update, a) does anyone know why and b) does anyone know exactly how to install the bleeding patch thing?

If you're able to help, I'll need detailed instructions because frankly, I'm a bit dim. I have my clod stuff stored in my x86 directory thing.........

Patch 1.09 is a released candidate (not a beta) at the moment. This is the patch that will be released via steam auto-update when they've crushed a few more bugs.

1. Download the patch from the links HERE (I prefer the torrent DL because it's faster)
2. Navigate to Steam (click on the steam icon) & find your steam games list. Right-click on COD & select - properties - local files - verify integrity of game cache. This will clean your game back to 1.06 (unpatched) version.
3. Navigate to your My Documents - 1C Softclub folder. Locate the cache folder & delete it.
4. Now navigate to your root\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder. Cut/paste the archive file into this folder.
5. Extract the archive (rar) file. It will ask about overwriting files. Say Yes, to overwrite some folder/files.
6. Done

Thought I'd expand on the actual unpacking process for the downloaded patch (points 4 and 5 above) as people seem to be having issues.

First up I use 7-zip for this process and have had no problems (unlike some using Winzip). I suggest those who need to read this post should use it too - it's free. Download it from:

http://www.7-zip.org/

Install either the 32 or 64 bit version depending on your operating system. If you're not sure - just use the 32-bit version.

Once installed on your system open 7-zip (See Pic 1 below)

In 7-Zip navigate to where you have downloaded the IL2COD_20111.rar file
On my system it is in E:\downloads\compressed. (See Pic 2)

Right click on the IL2COD_20111.rar file. This will open the 7-zip choice menu.
Go to 7-Zip > Extract files and click. (Pic 3)

Now click on the box on top right with 3 dots in it (highlighted in red in Pic 4)

This is where the files will be extracted. So navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover

and click ok (Pic 5)

In the next screen click 'ok'. This will begin over-writing the new files to your COD installation.

When asked if you would like to over-write the existing files click on 'Yes to all'.

The process will complete and then you are good to go.

Thank you all for this. This is excellent stuff. I'll give the patching process a go and see what happens. Cheers

Default 7-Zip Solved my problems!

I was using an old version of WinZip to extract the files. It looked like it worked properly but I had the CTD after the "Plane in the Gunsight" screen. I finally used this guide which recommended 7-Zip, and the release candidate and hotfix both installed flawlessly. CLoD now works much as I expected it to when I first bought it! I highly recommend these mods.
