Having worked as a programmer in many big IT-projects I can understand how much stress they have been under the last weeks/months. There is a bunch of programmers in Moscow now that are in a desperate need of vacation, but they have to go on. I can imagine that the lead optimization guy that Luthier mentioned was sick for the third day in a row last week did not have a simple flu, but probably was burnt out. Poor bastards, I've been there and know what it feels like working 16-20 hour ago day for weeks to get some system running that some manager forced you to release while it was not done yet... You work your ass off but you only get negative feedback from all corners. I hope you manage to have a laugh internally at times to keep the spirit up!
Maybe we should put up a paypal account for the party they should have on us when they have on us when they are done... |

yep mazex, I can confirm what you are saying, it's my daily work as well...
It's sad that most of the time commercial decisions and laws prime over technical facts and time sonstraints. And the developers are allways at the end where it hurts. Sales persons promise things without even talking to tech persons. When estimating a workload to let's say 100 days you get the answer "well I give you 50 days" When the the miracle is done in time by the developers, it's the sales person that gets the crown and the money and if the the project is shifting it's the devs fault... ![]() Therefore I appreciate the work done by Oleg, Luthier and the whole team even more!!! |

Being a new member to the forums/community, this is a nice thing to see.
A lot better than all those threads of whining/whinging/pessimism; I know the IL-2 community is above that. My field also being software, I know how it feels to be worked to the ground... I'm sure in at least one years time the dev team will be looking back on what they've made and be able to laugh about the pre/post-release crunch-time in retrospect. Off-topic: can't wait to get my hands on the game. ![]() |

I have to deliver my project on April 1st, it's done, just some minor issues to fix, been working on it since August last year. Had to present the final product at two meetings this morning and I've got another meeting tomorrow at another site. After release day I'm going to hide under a desk (not mine) and put my mp3 player on super loud.
