Default 4.08 to 4.09 Disaster! Help!

I had to do a reload of IL-2. I installed IL-2 1946, it opens as 4.07m. I then installed the 4.08 patch and the game opens as 4.08m. When I install 4.09, the patch seems to open and install correctly, but after that the game will not start.
I then have to un-install IL-2 1946, clean the registry and start all over. I've done this 3 or 4 times now with no luck.

What am I missing? Is the 4.09 patch corrupted? It should just auto install correct?

I'm running XP, 2.2 cpu, Nvid 7800GT, 2G mem, 4.08m runs fine, but 4.09m will not even start.

Whats next???

TIA,

It definitely sounds like the patch is corrupted. I'd download from another location and have another go. No need to worry about cleaning the registry though. Let us know how you get on. Good luck!

I still can't get this to work.

I've downloaded 4.08, 4.09 from http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&c=564 , I've tried different mirror sites.

Once I install 4.09 the game will not start, no errors, no nothing.
I've tried the desktop icon, C/Programs/Ubisoft/1946 icon, inserting 1946 disc 1 CD, the menu with Start Game pops up, click on it and nothing.
Nothing in Task Manager, no errors, various downloads of 4.09 from different mirrors.

What am I missing???

TIA

Try uninstalling everything, restart and then install everything from the top.

There was an issue with different DLL, if I remember correctly. Try this:

Before you install 4.09m, save following files from 4.08m (can be found in main game folder):

il2_core.dll
il2_corep4.dll
mg_snd.dll
mg_snd_sse.dll

After installing 4.09m copy these files back into the mainfolder and overwrite existing ones.

Tell us pls, if it worked or not.

EDIT: BTW... did you usually need the DVD to be inserted to start the game?

I had similar problems going from 4.08m to 4.09, although I wanted to keep my mods in place, so it might not be exactly the same issue.

I did as Caspar suggests, although I found that it was the file 'files.SFS' that was to blame.

Presumably I'm now missing some of the latest features, but it allowed me to install the planes, skins and maps from 4.09 and 4.10 without spending hours reinstalling in the correct order and then reinstall all my mods.

Inelegant solution, I know, but it's acceptible for me, since I don't play online.

Sorry for your troubles...been there and done that. With Cliffs of Dover comming soon I elected to leave well enough alone with 1946 for this very reason. With the new version there seemed to be a small upside and the potential for a BIG downside.

I've had the same problem with my fathers installation of Il-2. He seems to be stuck with 4.08. I've installed 4.09 at least 4 times for him, but it never works.

Is it possible to go from 4.08 to 4.10?

There is a possibility to go from 4.07m to 4.09m (and soon to become 4.07 to 4.10), with a complete patch here:

http://www.desastersoft.com/download...plettpatch.zip

But maybe you will come to the very same result, if its the DLL issue.
Have you already tried, what I suggested some postings above?

Thanks, Caspar!

No, I have not tried it yet. The problem is on my fathers computer, and I have not seen him for a couple of weeks.
